Photobucket locked me out for putting the wrong password in.  Hopefully tomorrow (Monday).  It has around 200 watchers.

Yea, I have to annotate auction.  Assuming it was a prototype based on the XS VIN was a little hasty.  Who knows how things went down.  With the amount of Red paint under the package tray who knows; it may have been a "showroom" detailed vehicle?  I wish I had more records of these.  Wish I could chat w/ Galen at Spring Fling.

I have been guessing it will just break over $20,000.   There was a similar condition 440 4-speed C500 on ebay a couple years ago and it stopped at $22,000.  So i'm going to guess (hope) that this one breaks $20,000.  I have my car insured for $25,000 and i'd like to think its somewhat reasonable.   :Twocents:

No expert here, but here goes... without certain availability of the broadcast sheet my guess is $18,000.  If the broadcast sheet is located for sure the guess rises to $22,000.  The "XS" VIN will be a concern to some prospective buyers, but hopefully the abundance of clear "key" pictures will convince them that is is a real C500.  The "known car" status of this C500 should help as well... if the prospective buyers are aware of the fact...

Yes, the market appears to be that depressed at the moment...

I think that the term prototype would not apply to the car in question.

As far as I know the sheet that the lady has is for another C500, but has yet to be actually comfirmed that it is to the one that Rick has. All we know is that she has an R6 500, and as far as I know its the one that the sheet that was found in Ricks car goes to, but what sheet she has is still up in the air.

Daytona and 500 Registrations from  1976 wing warrior newsletter. It reads how many of you daytona and chargers 500 owners have the problem of possesing a registration slip showing maybe XS on the paperwork instead of XX.Well if you want to correct this error. Then heres what Mike Mcguire says you have to go through to straighten the matter out.As he had the same problem with his daytona. You write to James H Kilroy chrysler corporation office of civic affairs P.O. Box 1919 Detroit Michigan 48231.Include a copy of the title and picture of the car.And if possible a picture of the serial number on the dash.Or from the engine compartment plate. We recommend you use the dash.As we have seen a case where they even put XS on the engine compartment plate instead of XX as was on the dash.Mr Klilroy will inturn respond with a letter to your state DMV notorized stating he correct serial number. And they will in turn change the registration. Most of these problems were caused by an erroneous statement on the the factory title of origin. And in this case the mistake was made on Mikes Daytona.

Why would a 500 that has over 130 known VINS (lower) or before it be an XS car???
Was it pulled from the XS run because of a special order or something like that. This list shows the VIN as a XX vin but must have been compiled without really seeing the ACTUAL vin of the car.

I saw today's update on the auction ad:

QuoteOn Mar-17-09 at 10:46:57 PDT, seller added the following information:

Further Info:

This Charger was certainly one of the first Charger 500's.  It is assumed from the XS VIN that it was one of the very first.  The exact build date is in question (4 versus 9th month) due to the rusty fender tag.  We are trying to get ahold of Galen for his imput on the car (who knows what he has to add).  We have had many calls offering trades and/or cash, but we would like to let the auction run it's course.  The vehicle is listed locally in Ky and we reserve the right to end early if car sells.

As Troy previously mentioned, the "C09" seems to show a SPD of December 9, 1968... fairly late in the run of C500s.  Are you talking about the possible "typo" in the 925 number, 419 vs the stated 919?  My C500 is 238071 with a 925248, and had a SPD of December 4, 1968.  I see nothing to suggest that it was an early car... am I missing something Danny?  Anyone?  :shruggy:

I listed it for Rick.  Part of our "collaboration".  I am uploading the photos as we chat :)

10 day auction.  Should be interesting.

I have been following this, but no one has really asked, how did the car look in person?  Can most of the sheet metal be saved, or is there more under that yellow paint than meets the eye?  And why is there so much chipped paint and surface rust?  Is it just on the surface (as it appears)?  Anything major missing that would be hard/expensive to replace?  From all the photos, it looks like she can be brought back to new life without breaking the bank.  Was that how she looked in person?  Thanks!  -Russ

Rick, can you give more details on the condition of the car from my questions above, please?  We spoke a few times a while back (at least a year ago), while I was in hot pursuit of a C500.  I have some interest for this, if the price and condition are right.  I'd have to find some space, though!

Side note here guys but I believe that I set an all time record for the shortest phone conversation with Rick last night. Rick called me at 8 pm last night, and I was off of the phone by 8:10 pm. Can you believe that a 10 minute conversation, and no I didn't hang up on him, he is the one who got off the phone.

Okay so 15 minutes later he called back, and we were on the phone for nearly 2 hours and 45 minutes, but hey the first call was short. So I dare someone to beat that.

Okay about Ricks car, I have no clue as to why it has XS everywhere on the car. I have no idea why there are 4 others just like it out there that are XS everywhere as well. Why? Who knows, but they are here. It is definitely not a prototype car by any stretch of the word. If you go by VIN's it is #207 in the list of known cars to me. So not nearly at the top of the list by any means. List only goes to #256 right now anyways. I think that there is a bit of confusion about the build date, but I don't know why there would be. Car was built in December of 1968 no ifs, ands, or buts. Only question was to the actual 925xxx number. Rick had it listed as 925919, and I questioned it. Reason being is that the highest 925xxx number I have seen is 925743, which would be 180 digits lower than the one Rick had wrote down. My personal belief is that it should be either a 925419 which if the 4 was on a rusty tag as it is, could appear to be a 9, or if he was reading it from the back, could have been a 6 as well. Who knows, but I don't think it was 925919, its either 925419 or 925619. Either one would be in line with the  cars that fall around it sequentially VIN wise, and sequentially Scheduled build date wise.

All the Stampings are shown in the auction except the trunk lip...Would it be possible to get a photo listed of it..I know some don't like to lift the trunk gasket but I'm guessing this one will need to be replaced. Second if the Hemi Buildsheet that was found in this car has not been returned to the lady that is Supposed to have the Buildsheet for this car By now There appartantly must be a problem in the exchange that would only be multiplied by a new owner. Why hasn't the HEMI Buildsheet been returned???

69_500

Hemi broadcast sheet hasn't been returned due to lack of communication on the HEMI owners half. They say its too hard to get to the car to verify its the car for the sheet, and to look for the sheet they have.

It's easy to use a mirror to see the stamping from the underside, inside the trunk.  No need to lift the gasket.  Just take a picture of the correctly re-reversed image in the mirror.

Have you ever heard of two C500s/Daytonas exactly having each other's broadcast sheets (not just other VIN numbered cars)?  The few instances I remember of Aerocar broadcast sheets being reunited, the receiving car had a 3rd car's broadcast sheet.

My personal experiences of getting broadcast sheets back to the rightful cars, have all included at least 3 vehicles. I have yet to find one where 1 person has 1 sheet, and then the other person has in return the first person's sheet. For instance, Gene's friend bought a V2 Daytona in the St. Louis area, had a sheet to a Q5 Daytona, which I knew where the car was and it is Doug's friend in OH. Got that sheet to him, but the sheet from his car went to a Y2 yellow Daytona, that was down in Texas. Not sure what sheet was in the Y2 car though, but I don't think anyone had the sheet to the V2 car that started the chain. Another one is the Sheet that was in HighbankHauler's C500 was to a car that was recently purchased out of Idaho, however the sheet that was in the car in Idaho didn't go to HighbankHaulers car, but rather to yet another B5 blue, blue interior C500.

That seems to be the norm due to the large piles of seat cushions Creative supposedly had.  Probably a lot better chance of it happening on interior colors other than black due to smaller piles of cushions...
