Camshaft recommendation

What i have is a 70 GTX with a 440 AC and 727 with a little higher stall than standard.
3.23. 8 3/4 rear.
Engine is stock with the HP manifolds with dual 2,5" exhaust, except for a new Edelbrock Thunder AVS, 800 cfm, Square Bore, and a Edelbrock performer intake.
Also new K&N airfilter in stock airfilter box.
I would like to keep the stock appearance, but get some more power.
Was thinking about the 440 source stealth heads and new camshaft and lifters/timing chain.
The engine is running fine with no oil leaks, but is lacking some power.
Any suggestion for a camshaft?

Did you do a compression check to see if the rings are wearing out?  Might as well find out if the whole thing needs rebuilding if it's lacking power.

No, i have not done that  ;)
I have read the plugs, and they are fine.
The car has only 66000 miles on it, and the engine is replaced under warranty i think.
It has no vin number, just blank field.
When i changed the carb and intake i noticed that the camshaft had some wear.
But it would be smart to take a compression test, what would be the correct numbers?

Anything around 140 to 160 psi. is the rule.  You want all your cylinders to be within 10% of each other.  Do a dry test first.  If you have a cylinder with a lower number, add some oil to it and redo the test.  The oil will seal the rings.  If your test results are higher the 2nd time, the rings are worn.  If it's the same, the valves are leaking.

I got this suggestion from Comp Cams.

Arne,

I would recommend running part #21-221-4 which specs at 212/218 @.050 447/455 110lsa.

This cam has a 1000-5000 rpm operating reange with a strong increase in low end torque and mid-range power.

It will have a mild but noticeable idle and a wide powerband.

We offer this cam in a "K" kit which includes the cam, lifters, springs, retainers, locks, seals, and a roller timing set.

You should also upgrade the intake manifold as well....the "performer" is a cork and is more restrictive than the factory piece.  :P

;) Yes i know, but i want the original look.
I have "cleaned" the performer manifold inside and removed the edelbrock logo.
It is maybe a little better than stock with 1" spacer and some mild porting  :scratchchin:
But it is lighter..

Find a vintage CH4B....looks stock and flows waaaay better than the performer !  :2thumbs:

Performance wise, it is on par with the Performer RPM  :yesnod:

I think i will be ok with the Performer intake, or maybe the stock.
This is a cruiser/street car, not a race car.
I will perform a compression check to see what the readings are.
I was hoping to just do a cam swap with the engine still in the car.
But if i need to do an overhaul, then there it is some more parts i need...

The HotRod link is for 383 manifolds.  ;) Just a point worth mentioning ; the 383 "performer" is a much better flowing manifold than the 440 version. Completely different animals  :yesnod:
