brake drums on a superbird. are they black or red :shruggy:

The faces should be painted red.   Krylon Banner Red would work well for you.

why are they painted red ? and only the face of the drum ?

The practical answer is that on styled wheel cars (essentially Road/Magnum and Rallye Wheels), the drums were painted so that the visible face of the drum would show some color other than rust.  I'd also guess that it was in vogue to do that at the time.  And yes, the factory instructions and most original/survivor evidence points to only the face of the drums being painted...  MaMopar didn't waste any paint if she didn't have to!

If the car came with the aforementioned Styled Wheels and drums all around, then the front drums were painted red also.
