I was trying to catch up by reading your old posts.  You had a '68 with a 440 that you sold?  Thought I read that you were swapping the 440 and 5spd (?) in to the 500?  That must not have happened.

You gonna go to the Charger picnic on the 23rd?  My wife and I are planning on heading up from the southern part of the state.  Would like to see the 500.

Yes, i had a 68 with a 440, automatic, but that car got sold last summer with the 440 still in it.  I never got around to putting a 440, 5-speed into the 500.  It still has the /6, 904 automatic trans.  If i still have this car for the picnic on the 23rd i'll be there!  The picture in my first post of this thread is from the picnic last summer.  Thats Lee and Me in the pic.

Hi Paul,

Sorry to hear you want to get rid of your 500.  :'(  They aren't getting any easier to find. I know mine is going to be sitting for a while before I have enough money to start on it.
Any way you could buy a car to drive now that's a little cheaper, even if it's not a Charger, then keep the 500 put away somewhere? I saw this Coronet on CL in Minnesota that looks pretty good for the price. Not sure if it's still for sale or not. Just trying to give you another option. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I was at the right place at the right time. It helps that I'm widely known in the area, so it's not 100% fluke. The car was owned by someone who could care less about the car, got it free anyways and hence, any money he made, he was happy with. With that being said, I saw the potential and knew this was my ticket to the '70 v-code Charger R/T I wanted. As all know, I was able to sell it, add that money to what I already had and buy the '70 Charger R/T I have now. If the fender tag was there, I had standing offers of over $20K !!!!!

If I don't keep this car, it'll go towards something that's pretty much done.. After all, I have my Daytona now, so I could deal with a 4bbl car.

I always liked your 500. After the 3 year resto of my 68 Charger I'm totally wiped out on doing anymore restorations. No more major cutting, plasma burning, welding, grinding, having everything taste like paint dust etc.,etc. The Charger I have now was my third full resto and next time I think I would rather spend the money and buy a turn key car. I'm not getting any younger and the time and money spent parts chasing and working on a project car three times now has really taken its toll. I would rather just pony up the money and be able to put the keys in it a drive it right away. But, I still have the I can save every Mopar mentallity. I've been doing this for over 35 years and admittedly, once it's in your blood it never goes away...Just keep the car, buy a very nice driver and slowly spend the rest of your life fixing the 500. There wouldn't be as much stress trying to finish the car if you already had a nice driver. I know one thing is for sure, I went three years without a ride because I made the mistake of selling my 100% finished 426 wedge, hemi 4 speed, dana 60 1964 Sport Fury. That will NEVER happen again. Good luck in whatever you decide. I wish years ago I would have taken pictures of a 69 Charger 500 I missed out on before we all knew that these cars would be in such demand. It was a 1969 Charger 500 with a 1970 Plymouth Road Runner nose on it. Get this, the nose wasn't changed out because of an accident, the guy liked the Road Runner nose better so he put it on. The original Charger nose was intact and was to be given to the buyer of the car if they wanted it. Back in 1978 $1,200.00 was way more than most thought the car was worth. I think the car finally sold for $800.00 and I years later it ended up in a junk yard after having led a rough life through the hands of several owners...If we only knew...This sickness all started back in 1976 witha 1970 Dodge Charger and I haven't be able to find a cure for this desease yet...Again, good luck and keep us posted so I can cry when you sell it saying to myself I should have bought that car cause I could have "saved" it.

I would hate to be in Paul's shoes again; been there, done that. It's hard giving up on an Aerocar you've had for so long. But, the itch to have something you and your family can enjoy becomes overwhelming. That's the same reason I'm selling/trading my '70 v-code Charger R/T project for a 4bbl Charger R/T. I think we both know what we have, so like me, Paul's not going to just give it away. Words of encouragement are nice. Some times, you just have to press on............
