Good points there guys!
Who would be mad enough to repaint a new car??? :scratchchin:
These days it would be a removable vinyl-wrap.
I suspect an 'ACCIDENT' of some sort?
My 500 has had a scrape down both sides early on in life.
Lot of panel work on the right fender into the door and left rear quarter.
Bondo was very old and very hard too!
Was gonna leave it alone but it was rusty underneath.
Modern paint-strippers didn't really touch it at all?
I took most of it off by hand.

All that lovely black/red paint was covered in TEAL BLUE!
Someone then got bored with that too and rattle canned it Primer RED!!!
My fingers are still hurting LoL :buff: :buff: :buff:
Unfortunately the 'ongoing work' pictures were lost on my  laptop!

Jon, I have a few pictures of your car that you had sent to me back in 2007-2008 I think. It's not many but a few.

So a July 69 magazine would be on new stands in what, March/April right? Which means photo would be shot about 4-6 weeks prior that that? Or was turn around time back then even longer between shots and publishing?

I don't think the lead time back then is as far ahead like today.
The pics could easily been taken in the spring to give the ad guys time to get approval.

500Jon

I have a strange feeling that the Crower-Cam C500 Car means more to me than anyone else???
Even the DG Museum doesn't seem to care???
I suppose in the scheme of Don Garlits memorabilia, this is chicken feed! ::)

Too cold to paint now, so in the spring I will be shooting BLACK all over the old Girl!!! :paintingpink: :paintingpink: :paintingpink:

Then some nice red bits and maybe some advertising for my new business?
JON GARLICS, homemade Mopars LoL!!! :popcrn:

The Crowler car means something to those of us who like the 500's. To a lot of other people, your right it is unimportant. Personally I think there are more significant 500's. That are also not "accounted" for either. Example the car Bud Lindeman beat the snot out of in the test drive video.

Thanx 69_500.

I am firmly put into my place LoL! :slap:
The Don Garlits C500 is a nothing car of no importance to anyone, not even DON!
If that's the case then all 50 year old cars are irrelevant to the masses as well!
Its only the domain of the handful of diehards who want to keep the past alive?
Dodge are not at the races any more and Plymouth my greater love, is dead and buried. :'(

My kids are only interested in online games and food!
The thought of going into the freezing cold garage to fix a rusty wreck is beyond them!!! :shruggy:

I applaud every ones effort to revive the once splendid Mopar achievements of the 60' and 70's.
But I feel there is an undercurrent of elitism with certain Wing-car Folks!!!

This is quite evident with the Ginger-haired stepson C500 comments on this magnificent site!!! :2thumbs:
500Jon, still cares LOL!!! :pity:

I think 69500 is just pointing out that there are a small cadre of us who are real 500 devotees.  A lot of Daytona and Superbird fans see the 500 as an interesting stepping stone and that's it.  Look how many people think its a good idea to use 500's as great fodder for Daytona conversions.

500Jon

OH DEAR Mr.Ghoste.

I wonder how many rusty/wrecked Daytona's are in fact C500's???
Like the 70/71 hemi-Cuda converts, I bet nearly all the Daytona's will one day be found.
Unlike the 392 (or maybe more) 500's running around with Nosecones LoL!
Need I say more??? :nana:

Not too many 500's running around with wings or nose ones.  I knew of 5 that used to and now none of them have daytona parts on them.

Ghoste

I didn't mean were converted, I was referring to the comments that often come out when discussing 500's  Sorry I should have been a lot clearer on that.

500Jon

Hi Aero's,

Are we sure that none of the current so called 'legitimate' Daytona's were ever rebodied with a C500.
But I bet that may happen in the future as the Daytona 'gene-pool' becomes outta reach for most Folks?

What are the legalities of rebodied cars in the USA?
Are all the 'Scrapped' Daytona's on a database???
5J

I suppose its different for SuperBird owners, they don't have a ginger-haired stepson to rag on?
Just the knowledge that the car that was built for the 'KING', was too GAWDY to drive on the Street!!!
His very own words when he gave his Petty-Bird away, a gift from Chrysler?

The Hemi blue 500 is back to being just a 500 now. As far as I know the F5 green 500 that had a nose and wing is also back to being just a 500 now.

There is too big of a gap in VIN's to ever try to legitimately try to pass one off as the other.

500Jon

EER, how can I put this?

Mine was faked up too...................
No not my C500 but a whole new Daytona was created.(copied my C500 vin number)
Then the fake vin applied and sold to an unsuspecting buyer!
Apparently its a well documented story and hopefully resolved now???
Don't know the full story but people went to Jail. :scratchchin:

Bad, bad, bad stuff!!! :slap: :'( :slap:

Why pre 68???

Was this picture in late 1968 or early 1969, which triggered the strange date?

The UK cut-off date for American car 'Shows' is around 1973???

Maybe the hunt is still on?

Don is unsure but thinks his car was an auto?
I was told by others it was deffo a manual 440 4-speed dana car!
Hopefully someone will put this to bed.

Time can dull the mind lol.
