Meh, it's their company and they own the rights to the name. :horse:

I'm not buying one, so I don't care anymore. :2thumbs:

I've got my old Chargers, and that's enough for me. :coolgleamA:

Although I would like a couple more...  :scratchchin:   :yesnod:

Need a '68 to round out the 2nd gen crew, and you 3rd gen folks sold me, so I gotta get a '71, and gots to represent the originals, so I need '67.   :icon_smile_big:

D@mn, I'm gonna need a bigger garage.  :D

give em a break, the new Charger is totally different from the 06, except for the 4 doors. that remains and will remain the same. I dont like 4 doors either, but I understand why,  and I got over it. I have seen the new Charger, (a pilot plant model) with my own eyes. it is a huge improvement over the 06, loaded with styling cues from the earlier 2 door models. Chrysler Design is doing the best it can given the resources and the platform they must work with. This car is not " a piece of crap".  this car equipt with hemi will blow the doors off any previous generation Charger in every single category, except for the number of doors. Give it a rest. I have seen the entire CJD product line for the next 2 years. Chrysler will be back. the world does'nt know what Ma Mopar has in store. If I have offended any one's sensibility out there I am sorry, I am kind of weary over all the bashing.  I bleed Mopar blue and will defend her always.

dude, bite me, i just said it didnt look any different from the 06, i didnt say i hated it, i didnt say it sucked i didnt say anything other than that.  get off your soapbox and gear your pathetic dribble to someone who gives a shiza.  good god, who pissed in your wheaties.

FOR THE RECORD, SINCE CAPT 104 POST ON THIS BOARD felt he should be heard in regards to a topic that has been beaten over and over (and he doesnt know how to use the search button):

TO ME, IT DOESNT LOOK ANY DIFFERENT THAN THE '06.   if you think that i am saying it sucks from that sentence, then IMHO, your a moron.

*edit*  since you know trevor creed.. he is a douche.

remember the, paraphrased "who cares about the guys who buy old chargers" or "the new charger will have nothing in common with the old charger" or "the roots of the new charger will have no ties to the old charger"  boy... that went by way of "daytona" "superbee" "high impact colors"

chargerjy9, defend this abomination on the LX forums.  I remember mopar giving us the whole  :fu: after the 06 came out.  your defense of these azzmunches does nothing for me.

^Hell they could still produce that and make a ton of money. That thing is SEXY.
Honestly what mopar is lacking is what is supporting ford at this point.
The Mustang is a low budget muscle car. The fact that Mopar didnt make a convertible, advertised the first Challengers as muscle only, and didn't take some foothold in the budget muscle market like the Mustang shows that Mopar ain't going to get this right when they can stare thousands of enthusiasts in the face and flip them off.
Plus they would have to build a whole new car for the Charger to be a 2 dr. The lx platform has a 2 dr. muscle car. And the 4 dr. Charger is selling all over the place to police stations. You think they are going to turn that away? For us? Hell no.
Build the charger as a 2 dr muscle car to compete with the Mustang and not only would we have more of a enthusiast population buying up the cars left and right, we would also see Chrysler rise from the depths of its debt. Build the 4 dr.'s as a cornet or w.e to pass the name off and then you can serve both the family market and the lower budget muscle car group.

While I appreciate them putting retro flairs onto the car, they mistakenly used the 1975 Charger as the benchmark for the charger heritage (the general front end style looks remarkably similar). Its nice to see Dodge cares about its past, its just 5-7 years off.

EDIT
My awesome paint skills shows just how close Dodge has come to recreating the true authenticity and heritage of the 1975 Charger that we hold so dear to our hearts.

"dude, bite me"  ???
geesh, I was just trying to say that the 2011 has been changed for the better  (IMO) over the 06.

for the record. I was 17 when the 2nd gen Charger hit the streets, I thought it then and I think it now that that was the finest design on the road, sleek, well proportioned, above anything else out there. timeless. and IMO it still is today. I was working at Highland Park, in the B Body studio when we did the clay model of the 75, I hated that car as  called Charger. It was no longer a sporty muscle car, it lost the heritage it came from. As for Mr Creed, he is gone, so are the Germans. they were responsible for that 06. I hated that design as well. I was very vocal about naming that thing Charger, I was old enough to understand the heritage of the name. Trevor, being English, didn't get it, and neither did many of the young designers who were unaware. No one pizzled in my wheaties... I just want to see Chrysler survive, I hate it when Ma Mopar is bashed, she has been good to me for over 35 years. for the most part, many of us who worked there had no say , we were just trying to do our job. The new crew there  IMO gets it, they tried to rectify the 06 using what they had to work with. now they are hamstrung with the new evil meanies, namely Nancy Pelosi and her gang of idiots. (for the record, the 99 show car that everyone, me included, likes, has 4 doors.)  I worship at the altar of Dodge Charger just like eveyone else here does. Chrysler cannot do a car just to appease us 58 year olds, we aren't a large enough market to sell to. they already have a 2 door, there isn't enough room for 2 models in the same line.  you can't please eveybody, you have to sell where the money is. This ain't the 60's. I am off my soapox.

Man that must have been cool to be 17 back then.    :2thumbs:   To see all these cars like the Daytona and stuff in dealer car lots new.    :drool5:   At 17, was the 68 Charger a cool car to get for a kid ?   Or was it more of a middle age (30+ year olds) car ?   Im just wondering if the age has changed for wanting a new Charger.    :shruggy:   I'm 40 so I don't know what it was like back then.  I can see a kid wanting a new 68 Charger back in 68... BUT, I can't really see a 17 year old kid today wanting a 2010 Charger.     :shruggy:

I was 8 in 1970, so, all I have to go on is oral history from my uncle who was a Sales rep for Case in the south until the mid 80's

QuoteIn around 1965 Case started getting the top salesmen our own company cars. Most all of the guys got cads, olds, buicks and sales went down. In 1968 we all received brand new Dodge Chargers and sales doubled in 6 months.

The perception was a city slicker trying to con driving a Cadillac, another good old boy trying to help out driving a Charger.

I'll take it one step farther, lets remake Bullit. The redesigned Mustang has the right look and attitude. What would we get for the bad guys car?

It sure as hell wouldn't be a soccer mom car.

Exactly. To Holywierd and Detriot it is names and marketing to exploit.

To us it's our walk. Our Talk. Our Swagger. To be a REAL charger owner, first you must be a rugged individualist. That by nature rules out cheap stripes and marketing gimmicks. Even within the group, you still have to be a rugged individualist. I have no love for vinyl tops. I hate the tunnel back window. I keep most of my opinions to myself as there is no criticism that is valid if the individual likes that car as they like it.

OMG WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY? ALL THE WHILE DERIDING THE '06-HOPEFULLY SOON CREEDER? Like I said, I try to stay out of most of these threads as there is no sense in bashing the other versions. Except this one. Why?

Because it's sheeple socialist marketing. BUY WHAT WE GIVE YOU, NOT WHAT YOU WANT.

Another great example of this is the grocery that I shop at has started the practice of when a certain brand of bologna sells out it isn't restocked until much of the competing brand next to it has gone. Well, until chisler markets what I want, no amount of spin will get me to buy.

Did I get a new Challenger. Nope. I didn't want one. I had in mind exactly what I wanted. I didn't get it, so I am still spending that 50k I would have spent on exactly what I did want (truth is I am still spending, and will continue to be spending for a while :eek2:).

In the mean time, no amount of spin, addition of colors, celebrity endorsements would get me to part with hard earned gold for a catfish that just ate a dog turd grill.

Why? They could at least HIDE the rear doors like mazda did on the RX8. that thing looks like a 2 door, but has four!  :scratchchin:

No, seriously, the only thing wrong with the car is the name they decided to give it. Change that and there's no longer an issue.

Besides, that 2011 "Charger" really does have a retro look (from '06).
+1 I have never understood the comeback of "It blows the doors off our old cars!" "Handles better than the old ones!" "Better than that old rust bucket!" When most of us have no problem with the engineering but is purely the aesthetics we don`t agree with.....

exactly!!! If I really cared about "performance", I would have gotten a Viper or Corvette or something. I like the style, the looks...and along the way, I'll upgrade some of the engineering to make it a better ride but as far as the style goes, you just can't beat a 1966-1974 Charger, specially when compared to the so-called Chargers of today. I had no problem driving my '69 Charger half primered up and with different paint applications, full of tape, pitted chrome...looked like a car right out of a junkyard/barn but it still had style, it's still a work of art and a killer beast. I don't care if a srt magnum or charger or honda or mazda or whatever can blow my doors off.

well ,I grew up in a pretty cool era for cars. When I saw the 66 Charger with that fast back roof, that  began my love affair with B bodies which continues today. when the 68 came out,I thought that it was the coolest car on the planet,no other car company came close to that timeless design, still is today for me.It inspired me to want to work for and design cars at Chrysler, which I followed thru. At 17 to own one was out of reach, they were pretty expensive for a kid, if you saw a friend driving one, it probably belonged to his parents, we all drove early 60's cars. in 1970 I bought my 1st car that wasn't a hand me down, a 65 Dodge Coronet 500, the 1st of many b bodies to come.

THAT IS BY FAR THE UGLIEST CAR I AVE EVER SEEN! talk about sacraligist.  OMG!!!

Since I have started working for this Dodge dealer, 5 out of 10 chargers that come in here have been broken into and have damaged driver side door handles. This is a pretty bad crime area but DAMN! Everyone has to have the Charger........ It must be a status thing now..
