To think he had the car for 25 years ripped apart, and un touched. I don't think he would of ever restored it. I am yet to send him pictures after the resto.

Magnumcharger

Yeah, that is strange. Even stranger is some of the other vehicles he's got laying around, also doing nothing...and the upstairs of the same barn, full of "interesting" parts...again doing nothing!

This is one amazing thread-the pictures, the details, the discussion, and the satisfaction you must feel when it was done. Congrats on the trophy and bag (I want one too). Thanks for the work AND the pictures.

Went to a Fathers Day breakfast and Car show on Sunday. Weather was great and about 300 cars. It was fun to finally take both of the wing cars to a show. I had the wife drive the Bird there and it was about 5 years since she drove a standard. She said she was a little rusty so I let her drive the Daytona home. When we left the show she overheard two guys from the crowd say 'Thats a chick drivin that car". Made her feel pretty good.

Same car that I saw at atleast a couple of times at Mopar Day at St. Thomas Dragway around '86-87 ??

Could be - Both have white latch trays....the newer pics have the correct black look around the h/light buckets.

Cars look great - sorry I could not get to the spring Chrysler show to check out the 'Tona!

kw mopar

Stonecold I can tell you that is not me in the pic. I don't pull my dress socks up that high. I have owned it since 2003 but the guy before had it since the early eighties. And he was local. When I got the car it had 15 year paint but the only difference I can see is when I got it the white was blacked out around the head lights. Maybe he did it after those pics. Do you recall it being a 4 gear console as mine is?

I don't visit this site very often but have been a member for a while . All i can say is WOW !!!! what an awesome job on Gilbert's Car . Now to clear up some information or maybe some posts i may have missed.
I have known about the car for at least 25 yrs when it was stashed in the old barn. I also raced it when it was a drag car at Maiteland NS.
The pics that were posted showing the car in the barn were taken by me in 82 > they were also posted on Moparts several years ago when myself and Onebadsuperbird tried to raise everybody's blood pressure by announcing another Daytona found. Maybe some of you Moparts members with wing cars  may remember.
Other than that , I can only congratulate the new owner on a beautiful restoration and now having a super nice wing car .

kw mopar

Thanks. PM your phone # to me if you don,t mind. I would love to get some history about the Daytona. I am yet to call Gill and show him pictures.

mopar_man

Phone #  sent ,  let me know if you got it . trying to work my way around this site lol

So the question is now what do I do with 414627 ? Its the twin of Rob's car other than black guts .
Car needs an 80% rebody , have decent floor pan and fire wire , original engine and transmission.
I  proberly don't have the resources to restore it to even compare to Rob's winger. Maybe its a show for Chip Foose . lol

I hold the envelope lol and "Des" pulled what was left of the winger home. he has the engine , i believe i have the tranny and drivers door  and I hope i never let the tranny go into another project. I had no intention of ever reboding this car secretly and some unsuspecting buyer buying it and not knowing it was a rebody. hence i e mailed Doug Schillinger(sp) and gave him the info and vin # and he recorded the numbers.
so what should happen to whats left?  i see Stuart has/had  a 500 for sale  that would make things a lot easier.
I would hate to see this car and numbers gone forever. I know of other cars that started with less and ended up a "Real car ", but thats not my way.
If you have no morals or ethics in life what do you really have ?

moparstuart

yes  it would make it easy and my car is pretty rust free , but i would never knowingly sell it to anyone doing this .
