are they anywhere?

i bought my Daytona because i like the color combo

white, red wing + red interior
440 automatic

people have told me its an uncommon combination

i saw in an late 1990s mopar mag that had a feature on bell stechs car, like mine except for his is a stick and restored, and it quoted galen govier as stating only 2 were built in this color combo

does anyone have production breakdown on color combo #s?

or a color combo known to exist list??

thank you
tony

I might have something Galen did on paint and interior breakdown from a magazine article .I know Bill Stech .I also did research on his car .That info was used in the article
Called 565 led a battered life

.I furnished this document to him.And it cleared up alot he didnt know about his cars earlier life accounts

Tony,

I know of four W1 / C6R Daytonas.  There are probably more, but those are just the ones for which I have fairly reliable tag information.  At least one other W1 car has had its original black interior replaced with a red one, so looks can be deceiving.

Interestingly enough, yours is the only auto of those four - the other 3 are 4-speeds.  That is not to say there aren't a dozen more still out there, but it is indeed a rare combination.

Not only is it a rare combo, but it's a darn attractive one too.

Red interiors always catch my eye.

hi gene

thanks for chiming in, youre great!!

the codes you posted are relevant to the exterior color and the interior color.

what about the wing color too?

white cars could have had black wings also, right?

do you have a breakdown of the wing color in regards to the ext/int combo?

thanks again
tony

Hi Tony,

There is no order code or document that I know of which confirms with absolute certainty what the original wing color was, since nothing on the Fender Tag or Broadcast Sheet references the instructions given to Creative for a particular car.  Even the Dealer Invoice List that the WW/NBOA transcribed a couple years back isn't an unimpeachable reference, although it makes for some interesting reading.

There is a VERY LOOSE rule of thumb that the interior and wing color match, when one of the three available stripe/wing colors was also the interior color.  Obviously something else determined the stripe color if the interior was green, tan or blue.  Even that loose "rule" is far from definite, as there are a number of documented exceptions which don't follow suit.  It holds true quite often, however.  It's still a thought of mine that a lot of (but certainly not all) Daytonas were spec'd out by Chrysler and not the individual dealerships or prospective buyers - which may have contributed to the interior/stripe correlation.  Then there is the possibility of ordering a Daytona without a stripe altogether (rumored to be at least one, but due to the aforementioned verification difficulty that's a hard thing to prove without DayOne pictures or any official Chrysler documentation/order sheet).

Of the four white/red cars I have color information on, only two of them (yours included) are ones I logged as having a red stripe.  The other two may indeed have also had a red stripe & wing -- but if I don't know, I don't usually guess.  A restored car could have had its stripe color changed due to the preferences of its owner/restorer, so "before restoration" pictures are the most reliable indicators.

Sorry to be so non-committal here, all I can do is relay what's been unearthed to this point... which is all subject to change as we go along and more cars' info comes to light.

Maybe theres a chance of finding reminant decal under sidemarker or in trunk. If Im not mistaken its called Tomato red on the stripe color

Tony knows the original color of his stripe/wing - that's not in question as far as I know.  I think he's interested in determining how many were equipped in similar fashion to his   :drool5:  combo.  I've heard the red striped referred to as Tomato Red also, and it pretty well matches R4 Red (orange-ish red).

Gene

thank you again so much

of course i wouldnt expect you to answer in certainty unless you knew for sure, no need to be sorry. its a great asset being able to say your not sure as opposed to some who feel they always have to have an answer whether its right or wrong

i truly appreciate your help and willingness to share your in depth knowledge and research.

is, bill stechs car (W1 C6R 440 4spd) the other one you have listed with a red wing?

my car definately had the red wing, its still original paint for the wing, some spots of the white body was repainted, but its so hard to determine between the creative industries repaint and repaint done after the fact,  but for sure the wing is a red one

thanks again, like i said before, youre great!

Yes, that's the other confirmed W1 / red / red Daytona, the one that Dave Ferro restored several years ago.  I'm pretty sure I saw pictures of it before the restoration, but if I had them saved on the computer they were lost in 2008 (hard drive crash).

Vern Judy's former car is one of several examples of stripe color change.  That's a W1/C6W car which used to have a black stripe... now it's red.  It would be easy to assume the way it is now is the way it should be, and without photographic evidence of the car in earlier years it would be hard to prove otherwise.

Glad to help out, Tony.  DC.com admin/owner Troy is helping me with a project that will allow people to check out information just like you've asked. ( Hint Hint, Troy...   :poke:  )

dave,
i know the dealership it came from.
i spoke to the current dealership, its changed names.
+ i have the ownership history back to new
my car was stored in a garage since 1972 until i got it
i have pictures of it in the garage and while coming out of the garage

im not sure where your going with this

all i initially asked for was a color combo breakdown of daytonas

bill stechs car was already mentioned, i think i did in my first post, then you show pics of it later on.

thats just duplicate information and adds to confusion

thanks for your help but im getting confused by you posts

Maybe its just me :Twocents: Back tracking to the original owner will in most cases leads to invoice ordering paperwork.Which might unearth some code or what salesman may have put down to recieve a car a certain way/combo .Not related to a daytona in this case. But Inquiry #4923 code was discovered on a original owner FK5 superbird on how it was ordered and recieved a traditional non superbird color. And nowbody ever heard of Inquiry #4923.So if a car is someway unique it was specially ordered :Twocents:

interesting it doesnt have a plug   :scratchchin: :scratchchin: :scratchchin:

The artist apparently copied a press photo of the white mock-up Daytona that was shot out at the Proving Grounds.  There is an identical photo of the car that was used in the magazines.    The artist copied all of the wrong things that were part of that car including the marker lamps.
