Me too.

It's going to be great to be there in a winged car instead of a winged truck.  ;D

I'm in!

The Chicagoland Mopar Connection is working on a caravan of a lot of folks from our area.  We will also have parade laps and our own parking area.  I am torn where to park, hopefully the Aero cars and Chicagoland Mopar will be next to each other.

I believe we will have a Racers For Christ chapel service Sunday morning as well.

Is there any advantage in pre-registration?
I'll likely be there either saturday or Sunday with a buddy (I will finally have a co-pilot for a trip - besides sort term riders -PettyBird or 66 Chargerkid)
since I dont know when I'll be there I'm still holding off.

I'll see what I can do, work has been a bear lately, and as I said I will have s friend of mine with me, a mopar guy but I'm not sure he can put up with me for more than a day!

Scott Faulkner

Mopurr

As Stuart mentioned....you get 2 passes if you pre register.

So non-judged is $45.00 which you would pay even for one day to get the car in and only 1 person if you wait. and your friend would have to pay an extra $20.00 for a one day pass or $45.00 for whole event pass.

So if you are coming the pre registration is the best way to go.

Will be nice to see you

Pre-registrations must mailed no later than Aug. 20th. and you can also register online on the monstermopar.com site.......so you could wait until next month and still pre-register if you have any doubt of being able to make it.......Just got the mailed flyer a few days ago

Dave Kanofsky

Do we have a group rate at the Doubletee in Collinsville?

I just made a reservation there with the Chicagoland Mopar Connection group at $89/night, but I was curious if the Aero rate was better.

The reservation lady was great, her name is Linda, she got a laugh because I asked for a room overlooking the parking lot - she said she had never received this request before!

I hope this isn't the last Monster Mopar Weekend. Looks like there's a chance that the track may be sold or closed altogether due to the economy. We already lost Memphis and now this.

I agree.  What I take from the press release is they cannot afford or are unwilling to pay NASCAR the sanctioning fees at the current rate.   It takes a lot to just walk away from what would be your two premier oval track events.

Jim Campbell (runs the Monster Mopar Weekend car show portion of the event) called today and so I asked him a few questions about yesterday's press release.  He doesn't have any direct knowledge of what Dover is doing with the track, but the MMW guys do have several options available to them as contingency plans if Gateway isn't available as a venue for next year's show.  The show won't go away anytime soon.

Also, we're all set to have the Aero group in the same place and layout as last year.  The DC.com tent will be in about the same location as last year, as will the "official" Aero group tent where Ramo will be hosted.

I'll be talking with the Track Manager at Gateway in a week or two to confirm that everything's set for the track laps.  Based on the conversation he and I had at the conclusion of last year's show, we should be fine in that regard.

Based on the conversation I had with Jim Campbell (who runs the car show side of things) just a few days ago, any rumors regarding the demise of MMW are totally unfounded.  There are a number of facility/location options available to SS Promotions if Gateway goes away as an available facility.  Those options were already being kicked around due to the growth of the show anyway.  In a few more years, the show may outgrow Gateway's facility even if nothing changes.

I woudn't put too much stock in rumors of the show's demise at this point.  Scott and his team aren't going anywhere anytime soon AFAIK.

There will be two chapel services Sunday morning at Monster Mopar.

The first one will be at 8:15 in the drag racing tower led by Glenn Kreider
The second one will be at 9:30 in the car show (oval track) area led by Roland Osborne

Look for flyers that will be handed out and posted around the event.

RFC chapel services are non-denominational Christian based, and all are invited to attend. <><

I am awaiting formal confirmation of our ability to do track laps on both Saturday (at 3:30pm) and Sunday (at 11:00am).  The only hold-up is some confusion about how many other groups were extended an invitation to do track laps also, but from what the track manager indicated he THOUGHT the Aero group would be alright.  He said he'd call me no later than Tuesday to confirm things.

The pace car arrangements have - as usual - been generously taken care of by Mr. Denny Guest of SouthOak Dodge from near Chicago.  Denny has been incredibly nice over the past several years to allow Gateway's track guys to use a cool demo car from his dealership for pace car duties.  If you get the chance, it wouldn't hurt to give the guy a wave and say "Thanks".

I'm hoping that the weather channel misses it like they usually do. Right now they're predicting rain all weekend. Fingers crossed.

Charles Addams

At the moment, they're calling for a 40% chance on Sat and 10% on Sunday.  Low 80s for a high.  Like you mentioned though, they can be pretty far off on those long-range predictions.

I am guessing we are going to get the remnants of the storm hitting Texas now.    Hope that mess gets on out of the way!

We're watching the weather. It's sort of expensive for us to come up there and not be able to enjoy the show. Even though we're bringing the bird, this year we're primarily interested in the the drag racing. Even a little rain will put a quick end to any drag racing action.
We need the chance of rain to be about 30% or less both days to make the trip.

I hope the mess we have gone through in North Texas doesn't make it to St Louis... Arlington has been having significant flooding.  I believe I heard the rainfall amount was about 12 inches so far...

Monster Mopar seems to draw rain, but its usually not severe weather.

Good luck everyone!

I wonder if he noticed that the remnants of the hurricane just changed directions and is heading for SL. It's drowning everyone from Dallas to NW Arkansas right now. It's been raining here for the last two days and is supposed to continue. Dallas was just hit with a couple of tornadoes and we're (NW Arkansas) under a tornado watch here for tonight and tomorrow. Here in the south we have four seasons...cold, wet, hot and wet again.
I never did get my new windshield properly sealed in the bird. It took two weeks to get the car dry again after the two rainstorms I went through in Branson in June.
This has been the worst year ever for carshows for me and I didn't need that. Even the local carshow was rained out in April. My first show with the new bird was a total wash.  :brickwall:

I was at the track around 10am this morning, to officially stake out / reserve our parking spaces.  We'll have the same semi-circle arrangement that has worked well the past couple of years.  There was already a 200' arc with red flags to show the area we're in, and that will represent the back end of the cars - unless we get too many and have to rearrange things (that'd be a good problem).

The DC.com tent will be just to the outside of the circle, and Rich's tent for our special guest (Ramo) and Doug's #7 car is on the opposite side - closer to the main Registration Tent.

Also - track laps will be at 3:30pm on Saturday, and 11am on Sunday.  We'll need to line the cars up about 1/2 hour before each session, with the line beginning at the registration tent like usual.  I'll have an instruction sheet to hand out at the show for everybody as in past years as well.

If it is raining, or the track is visibly wet, we will not be able to do the laps.  That's not anything the MMW guys have control over, unfortunately.

There were lots of other people who put in just as much time/effort to help out as I did - it's a team effort, with the ultimate goal for people to come out, have a great time, and leave with a smile on their face looking forward to next year.  Hope we achieved the goal...

I appreciate you and everyone else helping me with Sandra. She had a great time. Especally the laps around the track. She was smiling all of the way. She kept asking me if we could go faster.

Glad to see you and Sandra made it home safe.  It was great seeing the Daytona and black Ice bird side by side.  I was worried for a bit I might not get it off the hauler.  I got several pics of them together

Sandra and I had a blast. I enjoy seeing her happy. I keep worrying that each show will be the last one that she will be able to attend and unfortunately it's looking more and more like that will be the case soon. We're both glad that she was able to enjoy the bird this year. One things for sure, she hasn't forgotten the laps around the track. She smiles every time I mention it.
I hope everyone had a safe journey home.
