Headlamp buckets for C500's, we have a match !!!

Hey gang,,
I THINK I already know the answer, but the actual headlamp buckets that were used in the grille modification/conversion for the '69 C500's are from a '68 Coronet? The ones in my C500 now aren't correct,,,, they are modified versions from another car that Pete was able to fabricate to work ( great job by the way Pete ). Guess I need a pair of the OEM parts...................  Should be simple enough to find......

Can anyone post pictures again or for the 1st time a couple of shots of their C500 setup/grille? I'm looking for the top view of the grille header with the attach bolt locations where the vertical headlamp bucket brackets are and the 4 top and 4 bottom attach brackets are. I'll probably get the kit Mike sells and the brackets should fall into place and thus be obvious. The inboard attach point of the additional headlamp bucket is obvious (attaches to the vertical inboard bracket), but what about the outboard locations/attach points? I have a collection of pictures from my Dana days, but not everything. Too be honest, as much as I would have loved to have another C500, never thought in a million years when I traded Dana off for the Daytona, I'd ever see one again in my garage.... go figure........  :brickwall:

I am not sure exactly what you are asking for, but the headlight buckets appear to be Charger pieces with an adapter stacked in front of them... probably made from the buckets of another model.

Attached are a few pictures to start with...

Hey Allen..
Yes, those are nice pictures.. Here are comments I wrote on one.. These are the areas I'm trying to focus on.. The headlamp buckerts used in the modification aren't Charger buckets. The original buckets as we know stayed, Creative just added a set to push the headlamp bulbs themselves forward.

Hey Allen,,
Those are pretty darn good....... Thanks.. Now, to get the headlamp buckets.............  Anyone have pictures of a '68 Coronet with out the grille? Maybe the part number in the '69 Passenger Parts Book for the C500 components will be the same for the Coronet headlamp bucket in the '68 Passenger Parts Book.

My dad has a '68 Super Bee. I will check it out and get back to you.

I just checked the '68 Super Bee and the headlight mount is totally different. It is molded in piece that probaly attaches directly to the fender.

I also looked at his '68 Plymouth and that is the same type of setup.

Perhaps a '68 or '69 C body with folding headlights might have something like that.  :shruggy:  I have a '76 New Yorker out at the farm but I can't get there very soon.

'70 Challengers have something similar looking to what was posted in the above pictures but it is not exact.

What about '70 Chargers? How do they mount?

I'll take a look, I still have my '70 Charger here. I know for a fact that the '71 Charger headlamp buckets are NOT welded on the grille header like the '68 and '69 Chargers.  I have a '71 headlamp bucket sitting on the table in the garage, I'll take a look..... Thanks for trying...  I do know that whatever bucket it is, the little plastic spacers the space out the headlamp bezel is in the same relative position as a '68 coronet..

Hey Troy, if you find some, get two sets.  I'm trying to convert my front end to C500 as well.  Actually now that I think about it, I would be willing to take the setup you have now if you find the correct stuff.  I'm not interested in the real thing.  I have an order in for the brackets and seals from Mike at Dayclona I could trade for your current setup.  Let me know, Steve

That's a mighty nice offer.... Maybe by the end of this thread we'll figure out everything together.. I just emailed Mike too yesterday about a kit... The hard part is finding what car the headlamp buckets come from. Once that's known, then that part will probably be easy to find.....

Troy

Stuart, I know you know what these look like, posting it for reference to others.... On the bucket, you'll notice how the bottom inboard spacer has shaved down to make the bezel vertical......
I've annotated Allen's pictures for reference....

I used the buckets out of a 68 Coronet. They are welded to the fender,so you got to un-weld them. The plastic spacers are off the Coronet as well, you need some longer, they were two short ones taped together with electrical tape. Anyone out there interested in a really nice Hemi 4 spd  C-500 already restored. I need to sell very reasonable.

What?  Me worry, I'm not ready for them either.  Vinyl top goes on this week, then interior.

We have victory.. Here is a picture that a member over on moparts.com posted on my inquiry thread. The '68 Coronet HAS to be the one Creative used..... Hat's off to LTLBEE...

Hmmmmmm.....looks the same as the factory manual pic

The part that doesn't look the same is the addition of these support tabs which seem to be a actual part of the C500 pod...

Where would one get the 68 coronet buckets? Aren't they welded to the fender?

I've been looking for a pair too: http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,56980.0.html

You'll probably have to get a pair of sacrificial fenders and cut them out. I'm suspecting Creative got that particular component  when it was still a separate piece for the "sheetmetal" department, for a lack of a better term........
