Petty's Garage has unveiled their restoration of what they are calling the original Pete Hamilton Superbird.   The car is privately owned.   The car will make its debut at the Mopar Nationals this weekend.   If someone is attending the Nats and can get several detailed photos of the underhood and interior front and rear floor area, I'd appreciate it.   Pics are from the Petty's Garage Facebook  page.     Yes, that is a red Daytona shell in the background.  Probably a street car.

WOW!

I can't wait to see a review of the car next to other real deal cars. This is one car I really want to be the real deal, and if it is, what a piece of history.

I'll try to snap a bunch of detailed pics. Any idea where it will be at the show?

Sarcasm detector, that's a real good invention.

the Pete hamilton Superbird is being restored at petty's as we speak. I'm going to check it out saturday morning while i'm there.

.From Aero Warriors site A #40 Pete Hamilton SuperBird has supposedly been revamped at a top secret SuperBird restoration facility in the southwest (OK, the part about the secret facility isn't true). It is actually reported to be residing in the Washington State - Oregon area.

He certainly does.He was at the FORGE show 2-3 yrs ago with a modified cup style hauler to hold 6 cars.He had everything from round track stuff to old 1/4 mile stuff and he seems to be a good guy.

do I also see a 68-69 Coronet in the garage photos?  :popcrn:

I heard there were two Daytonas there in addition to the Hamilton car, and Richard's white street Superbird.   I also see the shell in the background with the quarters cut off.

I was thinking that too, could also be a '68 - '70 Road Runner.  I seem to remember a few of those in King Richard's past...

Troy, can you take pics from different angles of the interior floors,  trans tunnel, and torsion bar crossmembers.    Also the underhood is of interest, particularly the top bars from the firewall running forward to the rad support.    Does it have an X brace underneath at the forward part of the trans tunnel?

oldcarnut

Are the spoilers a little different in the pics?  I like the way it is in the first pic.  For the size it still seems to have some ground clearance for a street car to use.  It also has some holes in the outside edges.  What were they for other than some air flow thru?

Pete's car ran different style spoilers throughout the year.   Pete's Daytona 500 spoiler was very unique and quite different from Richard's car, with the outer slotted openings they could open, or block off.    The resto car mimicks that spoiler, but it doesn't look exactly right.

So when did this car turn up? I must have missed it.  What's the story on where this car has been hiding for the past 40 yrs?  Anyone have pictures from before the car was restored?
