Hey, you can hate the game but don't hate the player.

I'll look tonight when I get home, but I know I have a picture of an R6 daytona my dad used to have.

Those are R4 I think, or something completely different  :icon_smile_big:

Anyone notice the rear wheel flares on the Salt Flats photo up there?.. Slick!  ;)

69_500

Yeah here are 4 pics of the car, just partial pics of the car.

That Daytona as far as I can tell is still in the possession of the guy who purchased the car. I haven't seen it since the day it was loaded up on that trailer in 1986. but from what I have been told he still owns the car.

Daytona Guy

Here is a '70 B5 Red. It is a brighter Red than the '69 Red's and that is the reason I went with it for my (former) car shown.

Dave, the recall wheel car is Paul Kaufman's. The car is not coded for those wheels BTW. It's also got a '70 hood on it, and at least one 1/4 panel was replaced. The re pop window sticker is below. It's a done car, and very nice looking.

John's car is not pictured above.

The other car was on Ebay a few months ago. I don't know if it sold, but I guess when cruise season hits, I'll ask the guy.

69_500

I figured it wasn't coded for the recall wheels as none of the Daytona's were. The wheels were recalled long before the Daytona's ever were built.

Which was a load of bunk.  Chrysler (and everyone else for that matter) just hadn't gotten the hang of cast aluminum wheels yet.  Any set of cast aluminum wheels you buy now-a-days will come with explicit instructions to re-torque the lugs after 100 and 500 miles, or something to that effect.  Had Chrysler realized that there was no inherent defect with the wheels, they would probably never have recalled them.

That was Chrysler's cross to bear by being the first manufacturer to offer a cast aluminum wheel.  In that instance it didn't pay to be a pioneer.  I remember seeing a document on the wheel recall - seems like it was dated in September of '68.  I didn't save a copy of the file though, unfortunately...

The W23 wheels were/are just fine, and IMHO they look better than most of Chrysler's other wheels.

BTW, Paul's Daytona looks like I hope mine does someday (R4, black stripe, black interior, 4-speed... mmmmmmmmmm!!!)

Hemi68charger, thanks for the photo.

HemiGeno, what color is that Daytona on the bottom of your screen R4? I hope to be spraying some paint on my hood this coming weekend again and I'm going with R6 for sure finailly. If I have enough materials I'll cut the doors in also. I'll post photos if so. Was R6 a rare color combo on Daytonas? Mine will be a clone but org. its an R6 car and I was just wondering.
Thanks guys....
Mark

Mark, yes the Daytona in my sig picture is R4... the caleco look is temporary, thankfully.  R6 is a fairly rare color for a Daytona from what I've seen, much more rare than R4.  It'll look good though.

69_500

I certainly haven't seen too many true R6 red Daytona's over the years that is for sure. I have only heard of 4 R6 Daytona's. But according to the winged warriors there is 6 of them that they know of.

Now as far as Charger 500's go, I have only seen 2 Charger 500's in R6 red, and know of 1 more, so that would mean 3 500's in R6 red that I know of. I'm sure there is more out there.
