Forgot all about him.  It looks like he hasn't been around since March of 08.

Out of the 2229 '69s I have registered only 18 have the Y09 code on the tag...

Out of the 18, only 3 are actually still "exported"

1 in Moscow, Russia
1 in Lima, Peru
1 in Tilburg, Netherlands

That's kind of what I figured, super scarce.

Hi,

I had a 69 Hemi Charger RT, factory export car to switzerland, A4 silver, Y09 code. car lives now in netherlands, has a factory 240km/h speedo. It is currently for sale, too.

There have been quite a few Chargers sold new in switzerland, none in germany that I know of, heard 4 Chargers from the second generation did sell in the UK. A few will have been sold in Belgium/netherlands, too.

Hi,

it was factory A4 silver, no v-roof, stripe delete, black interieur, console automatic with 3,23 gears. With power windows as it was sold as a luxury car in switzerland due to the dollar swiss frank relationship back then. It was quickly painted orange back in the day with a painted on v-roof. Around 12 years ago it got painted flat black. That is the way I bought it in spring 2000 and it is still in that paint since I have sold it.

I do not have pics on my computer, have to search around if I may find some somewhere

that car was original exported to Venezuela, to a Venezuelan Chrysler corp manager. It has a LOOONG STORY about ( it was once a  General Lee ), restored but never completelly reassemblied and sold recenly to a guy called Domingo in Peru. It has a twin brother but automatic and is as far my knowledgement still around in Caracas. Has been told where exactly is to me but never have been there yet ( and is not too far away from me, 15 minutes driving into the city )

Beside that those ones, still are three 69 more personally saw, 2 of them SE 383 2 bbls auto, bronze and tan interior, one black roof the other one white roof. Another 2 69s in another cities, seen in pics. Then also a Purple 70 R/T 4 speeds white interior and roof which I have fixing some electrical stuff, what original was from an USA diplomatic guy on those days. Then 2 68s what I have seen just in for sale ads. Another 68 originally HEMI auto car what whan it was found just left the body. A friend has it and prepped for racing with a 440. At least one 66 or 67 what it was being sold looong time ago, but never did, so owner still drives it ( white on white, 383 4bbls auto, clock on console, AC ) All of them imported since only Chargers assemblied locally where 3rd gens

HOWEVER dunno how many of them were coded for export OR assemblied with Kilo speedo. Not the ones I have seen at least

ha ha for sure! there's a few guys that would be grinding their teeth over idea they were 'interesting footnote' he he. but they need to know. we failed big time! the other 2 of the big three at the time were rolling out muscle car V8's and chrysler aust missed it. ironic coz they had first 'aussie' v8 with the 318 in 1965.

The Y11 confirms that it was ordered by a US serviceman from overseas.

He would have picked a dealership in the US to have it shipped to so he could pick it up when he returned home.

Since the order was placed from overseas, these cars were 'export' cars in name, but they were delivered inside the US.

Details on the military order system from '69 at http://www.hamtramck-historical.com/dealerships/1969-DealershipsMilitarySalesOrderingInfo.shtml

well no maybe, it depends what angle you look at it from. we have 10% of US population so therefore less choice in locally produced vehicles.

the charger was what they came up with and straight 6 hi performance seemed to make sense at the time. i was only born in 76 so what would i know i guess.

from the angle of a mopar muscle fan in hindsight it would have been 'cool' to rebadge US chargers i think. probably wouldnt have sold as many as our market demanded a more economical/smaller car at the time.

On the 8th line down you call the number 8= Export. Are you sure that is not the letter B instead of 8 :scratchchin: :shruggy: LEON.

Alaskan_TA

Some 1970 export cars used an 8 instead of a B for Hamtramck if they were shipped 'incomplete'.

I do not know it this is also the case for 1969 Hamtramck cars?  :shruggy:

Iron Chef

My '71 Super Bee was an export to Canada.  It has a "C" stamped on the fender tag.
Most of your life should be "off the record."

ChargerRT69

This is an old post, but does anyone have additional information on Export cars?

I have  1969 Charger R/T with the Y09 code and the "Built For Export" oval plate on the inside fender. I am trying to determine where the car was delivered to so I can put together a history profile of the car.

Thanks in advance!!

6bblgt

Odds are it never left the US, is it the stripe delete car in your avatar?  Can you share fender tag and/or broadcast sheet info?

the vehicle order number in '70 tells the continent of destination - but I haven't heard any theories on the '69 stuff - I'll guess your VON is <050000, correct?

Ghoste

There are only 25 of them in the 69 Registry database out of the nearly 3500 cars registered now so needless to say, they are pretty uncommon.  It also makes it difficult to establish much telling information with such a small sampling.
Would really love to add yours if it isnt in there already.

yes but odometer will still read in miles. Needs a diff gear inside.

True, They also rotate the opposite direction that the mph ones do.

interesting, never paid attention to that. I actually have a miles speedo because the rallye cluster I got is from USA but my original standart cluster is kilo. I don't remember the rotation

being this thread was floated back on... I have to say with prooves in hands this statement is false.... unless was a joke LOL

Is the question that the odometer rotates the other direction? Yes it does and that comes from having them both in my hand.

Nacho-RT74

Are you SURE they are both from same speedo? I have also both in hands from 3rd gen Rallye speedo, kilo and miles and both are same direction, just the gears attached are diff teeth count.

would be interesting to see the plastic gears side by side. The thread on the speedo gear side must be also opposite, one going down to the left, the other to the right? Or some of them.

Really interesting.

I also have a 69 that is marked as an export. In my case as mentioned it's thought to have never left here. But rather ,simply ordered by a us navy soldier while overseas.

This is what I am assuming as well, but it would be neat to track back the history of the order etc.... problem is, with all of the privacy laws anymore, you cannot get anything from what I can dig up. The DMV will not give out any information that is for sure.

Unless someone else has a better or another way?
