Need Original Headlight Bucket Assemblies & Other Parts for Daytona...

Looking to buy or trade for original headlight bucket assemblies, front valance, latch tray, and other internal nose parts for an original 1969 Daytona.  I have a Daytona that was wrecked in 1979, and the damaged nose assembly was thrown away before I bought the car.  As of now, I have acquired a NOS nose cone, repairable used Z braces, mint used fender scoops, and excellent used 1970 Charger fenders & hood for conversion to Daytona sheetmetal.

Because the car is an original Daytona, and having acquired an original nose cone, I would like to use as many original parts as possible before resorting to reproduction parts.  I would like parts that are in good condition, or readily repairable.  I don't mind having to make some repairs, but I am not interested in total basketcase parts like the headlight buckets on eBay now.

I would also be interested in better replacements for some of the items that I already have, like the Z braces.  Or, original Daytona fenders and hood... or any original Daytona front end parts...

I have a good selection of parts for trade material, including Hemi, Six Pack, and NOS B-Body & E-Body parts.  I even have a few Superbird parts that I might consider trading for the right parts, like a nice pair of wing uprights & set of A-Pillar moldings.  The only Daytona related trade material that I have is a solid cast aluminum wing assembly... its a fair amount heavier than an original wing.

I believe the forum rules allow posting of Aero Car specific for sale & needed threads, but if not please transfer this to the Online Swap Meet area...

Attached are pictures of what I have now for my "some assembly required" Daytona...

Yes I did Doug, but did not see it until the evening because I was gone all day helping a friend trailer his car to a body shop.  By then, the eBay auction was underway...  I still plan to contact the seller about the headlight assemblies, but it looks like he wants a full package sale.  Although I need the headlight assemblies for my Daytona, it looks like the seller would want $5000+ for them if he was willing to separate them, which sounds way high to me...  If he would sell the pair for $2000, I would be interested.  Thanks again for your head-up email!

So if Mike Goyette wants say $ 1500 for a reproduction set of headlights there has to be a substantial premium for original parts. You don't want to seem to want a nose cone full of reproduction parts. My guess for the reason sellers want high dollars for original Daytona nose parts is that owners seem to want $ 120,000 to $ 200,000 for restored cars. Original headlights were hard to find 20 years ago. Z braces not so common. Unrusted, uncrushed cones again not so common. Used latch trays often bent.

I've picked up a number of nose parts the last couple of years, at a price influenced by the recession, but at a level way more than 20 years ago.

I guess that I am not sure these parts are as clean as they might first appear...  I see a lot of apparent damage in the limited pictures provided, including what appear to me to be dents, dings, tears, elongated holes, weld/braze repairs, wrinkled skin, wavy edges, scaly rust, etc.  These are certainly usable/repairable parts, but IMO not prime used items.

So, what does everyone think Fair Market Value is for these two headlight bucket assemblies...?  :popcrn:

You are right not prime used but??????

I could not even venture a guess on the fair market value But we could price out the reproduction components individually could we not?

Just guessing but here goes:

Repro steel cone - 5 K? 10K? :shruggy: (anybody bought one recently?)
         Z-brackets - $650?
         h/l buckets - $450?
         pivot frames - $450?
         grill screen - $50?
         grill frame - $300?
         spoiler  -  $100?
glass doors  - ??????(I actually need to call ted and order a set but I don't know what they go for? maybe need to be sitting down when I call)
         wiring -  $100?
misc. fasteners and brackets - $400 :shruggy: (i'm probably low here as I would bet I would spend more just on fuel to hunt this stuff down)

Probably knocking on the $10k - $13k door wow! I should have bought everything in the 80's!
I guess you could buy the 20k cone assy and sell off what you do not need?

Just guessing but here goes:

Repro steel cone - 5 K? 10K? :shruggy: (anybody bought one recently?)   $7000 IIRC, but I bought a NOS one for less...
         Z-brackets - $650?   Already have a set...
         h/l buckets - $450?   Needed...
         pivot frames - $450?   Needed...
grill screen - $50?   $20K nose has incorrect & damaged screen.
grill frame - $300?   $20K nose has a damaged frame, but looks repairable.
spoiler  -  $100?   $20K nose has a damaged spoiler, but repairable.
glass doors  - ??????(I actually need to call ted and order a set but I don't know what they go for? maybe need to be sitting down when I call)   Needed...
         wiring -  $100?   Needed...
misc. fasteners and brackets - $400 :shruggy: (i'm probably low here as I would bet I would spend more just on fuel to hunt this stuff down)   Needed... but I am not sure what all is there.

Probably knocking on the $10k - $13k door wow! I should have bought everything in the 80's!

By your estimates, I need:

H/L Buckets - $450
Pivot Frames - $450
Grille Frame - $300
Spoiler - $100
F/Glass Doors - ???
Wiring - $100
Misc Items - $400

...So maybe $2000 to $3000 worth of items that are in this $20K package deal... parts that will then require repair.  As I have previously said, I would give the $2000 for the pair of headlight assemblies.  I just don't see spending $20,000 + Crating ($300?) + Shipping ($500?) ...  About $21,000 and then trying to sell the damaged nose cone & Z Brackets for $18,000...

Am I wrong... ?   :shruggy:   :shruggy:   :shruggy:

Not at all, This little exercise shows that you are smart enough not to pay a premium for parts (just because they are original) that require a lot of work. Some just have to have original at any cost. In my young and uneducated days I bought a wing from texas  because I felt I needed original (not to mention paid for original). Many years later I find out it is probably a repop (solid center section). Shortly thereafter I bought an NOS set of sill plates from a large mopar vendor and again found out much later they were just repop (definitely a difference in the profile), I grew tired of getting ripped off (albeit from my own ignorance) and just bought everything repop from the rad cradle forward, nice, clean straight metal to start with.

Congrats on your nos cone score, I probably paid more for my repop cone than you did for your nos!!! :2thumbs:

Those headlight buckets look rusty :Twocents: Those parts wouldnt be these would they from a past auction of Gary Sages parts?
