Compelling evidence.  I'd say at this point it's still circumstantial at best, but compelling. :scratchchin:

Thank you!

414666   208   can      Pumley Auto Van Couver, BC   8/27/1969

665 was the 127th and 666 was the 208th shipped 3 days apart......nothing to do with anything than my curiosity.

You know - deep down I want to believe in this mod top thing.....funny how we know stuff from the 12th century but something 40 years ago is down the crapper.

I just wish there was a shred of factory paper or a pic of the thing on the hauler.

On a side question - does that car have a broadcast sheet? Just wondering on the SE thing....me thinks there were more than the two listed by the Guru. 665, Doc, 666(?) and maybe one in Quebec.

Beep Beep Dave

There is a broadcast sheet for the Mod Top car. There are no special indication that it was to get a Mod Top.

In the small world catagory all this came to light as one of the local Mopar gearheads mentioned that his Dad worked for the Vinyl Top manufacturer. The owner of the Daytona ears perked up and he had him  ask his Dad if he remembered anything and not only did he but he kept the samples. What are the chances of that? There is a manufacture stamp on some of the samples and the original I believe.

I think the complete story is suppose to be printed in an upcoming MCG and I surely don't want to steal their thunder. I will have a pretty complete story on the car on my Maple Leaf Mopars site sometime in the new year.

Here's a picture of the original top with 4 samples of NOS material.

...

As you can see they match up perfectly with part of the top removed from the Daytona.

Which one of those samples was taken from Steve's Daytona?

who is Steve?

Steve H. from Vancouver, B.C., who purchased 414666 in 1983.  We are talking about the same car, right?

So far I have 4 Canuck SE's listed...  414619, 414644, 414665 and the ubiquitous 414666.  There may be other as-yet undiscovered SE's sent north of the border.

Thanks - Well at least I can say I owned half of them...

Charger-Bodie

The Mod top would never be on the car again if it were mine. I think they are nasty ugly. Unless it was installed sometime before it got to the dealer I would leave it off the car. The white top one on the other hand I can handle. The mod top not so much.
68 Charger R/t white with black v/t and red tailstripe. 440 4 speed ,black interior
68 383 auto with a/c and power windows. Now 440 4 speed jj1 gold black interior .
My Charger is a hybrid car, it burns gas and rubber............

I am not a mod top fan but there are enough F8 Daytonas out there that if this one gets flowered ( original or not ) it is not going to be the end of the world..Just my 2 cents

That's 414644, as for the color, I did not get to see the fender tag to confirm...

They might be okay for something like a Dart swinger or 69 Barracuda but they sure don't belong on a car like a Charger and especially a Daytona.  I think the only way I would ever consider putting it back on is if there were some actual proof that the car came that way from Chrysler.  And I mean something irrefutable not word of mouth evidence.  That claims put forth so far in this make you stop for a moment to think but I still don't believe there is anything but circumstantial at best.

mauve66

so is the original owner or family still around?? maybe someone has pics??
maybe its just me but even in the early 80's when i got my first raggedy/rusty car i took pics of the damn thing, why is it that so many people never have a pic of the family car from the 50-70's???
