I'm using a Janaks nose. That a friend of mine is letting me use to mock up my car, and after looking at it, I though what the hell.   :shruggy:

Daytona Guy

You are amazing !!!!!

montana bird

I bet the curves on that are a pain :eek2: How are you doing it? on an english wheel, power hammer, or did you make a hammer form. Are you using 18 gauge steel like original.  I have a steel superbird nose and I thought the bottom and sides could be done. The top looks to me the hardest. Looks great just imagine the cost if you had to buy a steel one. :2thumbs: It is just amazing that these things were carved out of oak then transferd to kirsite dies to be stamped out. They didn't even have the cnc equipment that we have today. Those guys were true artists. :Twocents:

I'm using a plunshing hammer for the ruff covers, a shinker for rounding the edges as its covers from the side to the bottom, and the english wheel to smooth out the ruff areas for the sides. I'm using 18 gauge. To me the bird top would be a real bear with that crown in the center of it. So far I've got $127.00 in 2 (4' X 8') sheets of 18 gauge. Not sure how I'm going to do the top yet I'm thinking of making it in two pieces, my arms aren't long enuff to work one long piece.

I had pictures of one done in 3 parts on the top. left, right, and the center with the body line. I looked for it but can't find it. If you did it in 3 parts, you could put the center  part in a cheap bead roller with custom die's for the body line, or hamer form the center, or build it in 2 then build the body line and weld it in. I love what you are doing, goes to show you, were there is a will, there is a way. :2thumbs:

Looks good. There is 18 gauge AK steel as it's known available. Shapes like 22 gauge...a little more costly though...and a little harder to find.

So...so far on this forum, I've seen a guy build from scratch a very nice rear window plug for a Daytona clone (patterned off of a Janek fiberglass piece) and I've also seen repops of the stainless 'A' pillar mouldings.

Numerous threads on rear wings built from fiberglass, cast from aluminum, and constructed from sheet metal.

Now, a complete nose cone from scratch! And it looks good!!

This must be the end times. :D
