well i got all my trunk floor out today. the tops of the extensions are actually pretty decent. but the sides of them where they connect to the quarter are pretty bad. whats the best way to remove them? i didnt mess with them too much as im nervous about messing up the quarter as the cars already painted.

tan top

its tricky  , but what i would do , cut out the main part of the extension with a saber saw or your favorite method  , then grind ( grinder , dremel, carbide bit, on appropriate tool ) the inside lip where its spot welded as thin as you can with out going through !!becarefull of not getting it too hot as heat traveling &  burning the paint on out side ! (doing it from the inside will leave outer quarter intact)  then work the metal back & forth till you brake the welds ,   :Twocents:   ,  your going to need to paint the bottom edge & wheel lip anyway  ,  because of spot welds or mig plug weld throughs !

could use a spot well drill for some of the spot welds  , but  don't think it would be a good idea on this occasion :Twocents:

when welding the new extention in  , if it were me !!  & i was going to using the mig plug method , would  punch the holes in the new trunk floor extension & mig it that way  , do little blobs of mig at a time don't go mad as too much heat will travel & damage paint on outer quarter ! if your carefull no real clean up of where the weld was  will be required on the out side bottom lip of the quarter , & can just get away with softedge masking the front bottom edge & wheel lip & painting that section

You could also plunge cut down from inside the trunk - just outside the extension with carbon blade (watch out, sparks+gas tank= :eek2:)
Or one of those small reciprocating saws..And then clean off the rest.
