3-speed wiper switch

I'm having electrical issues with my wiper motor and I want to double-check my switch.  Can someone verify the wiring to the switch?

Wiper switch:  Large plug from dash harness plugs into the back, leaving 2 open male spade studs on the bottom of the switch.  One of them gets a wire from the dash harness, the other gets the jumper wire that runs over tot he washer button.

Washer button:  Two male spade studs, one gets a wire from the dash harness, the other gets the other end of the jumper wire that goes to the wiper switch.

The question is, does it matter which male spade studs on the backs of these two switches these 4 connections (3 wires - 2 from dash harness, 1 double-ended jumper) connect to?  The FSM wiring diagram confused me a bit in regards to these 4 connections, and I think all wires involved are solid brown which also led to confusion.

The 3 speed also had a resistance if it shows it on the diagrams .Dont forgot to check out the wiper pivots. I ve had many that were nearly siezed or locked up. Un connected the arm behind the radio and found wiper motor was fine :Twocents:

Heres how the factory suggested you test the wiper motors by technical service bulletin

Quote from: 7dcharger on May 02, 2008, 08:59:06 PMBrown with the white tracer goes on the bottom spade, this is a resistor wire that is only used with the 3 speed wiper switch. The other brown wire goes to the spade on the left, it leads to the washer switch.

I snipped this above text from the thread you directed me to.

This picture is from my thread when I labeled my dash harness.  http://www.dodgecharger.com/forum/index.php/topic,78814.0.html

So it sounds like I had my labels wrong here?  I have the brown* wire labeled as washer, but according to 7dcharger's write-up, it should go to the bottom spade on the wiper switch.  Then the brown-brown jumper wire connects the last unused spade on the wiper switch over to the washer button, and the brown dash wire lastly going to the remaining spade on the washer button.  Sound right?  I assume it doesn't matter which goes on which spade on the washer button?

Washer button... 2 brown wires and they can go to either spade.

Wiper switch...... big connection that's obvious. Then there's a brown wire with a slotted terminal connector. That goes on the male spade on the wiper switch with the little tab sticking out of it. That male spade should be obvious. Then, there's one more brown wire that goes to the very bottom male spade on the wiper switch... That wire should be cut in such a way that is't near the big main connector of the wiper motor.

The brown wire with light trace of white has the notch .I just pulled out my old stock of wiring to see a actual original harness

I think I have a 68 or 69 main charger harness and later 70 years if need arises .I was out clearing stuff .And I pulled these out of cars 20+ years ago 318s a 6 cylinder cars back in the day were unmolested :Twocents:.Clean bulkheads but there old

this is confusing me now ,  out of curiosity i looked up the 70 & 69 dash wiring diagrams  , that extra wire for for three speed wipers  says brown with tracer ! , although seem to remember in my original unaltered  factory dash harness  it was black & white & was taped up out the way but with the wires going to the wiper switch if you know what i mean , because mine was a 2 speed  , seem to remember the same color combo in my new M&H harness also , although i might be forgeting & getting confused  :slap: ,  think  i'm going to dig my old harness out to have a look , although think i have robbed some plastic connection covers off it & split it up , thinking about it ! :scratchchin:  need to look at a un touched oem one  :scratchchin:

All fixed.  The wires were crossed up as I had suspected.  Thanks for helping me sort it out guys!  I'll post a correction to my labeled harness post later on.  Off to anniversary dinner with my wife.  6 years!

Note to all with new wiring harnesses. The Year One dash harness has 2 brown washer motor lines incorrectly taped together.
Separate them and plug the one with the white tracer into the open male spade underneath the main switch plug.
Plug the special slotted female plug into the open slotted male spade
Plug the remaining 2 lines into the washer switch-either way is fine

Thank you Year One-2 days of tracing lines, lieing under the dash and fumbling with wiring diagrams finally figured out that your wiring harness was incorrectly attached together. I had the same issue about 10 years ago with a 1970 Dodge Charger where they had wired the headlight motor plug backwards.

Never used them, but any future harnesses are coming from Evans Wiring.

Yea M&H is vendor to them I believe. Wise to pull test and inspect every connection prior to installing. Mine had loose crimp for blue wire at bulkhead, this would have starved entire car and likely created other problems in time.

I just installed mine and it was marked and taped correctly.  Looks like their quality control needs a little improvement.
