Most of the body work is done. The last thing I do before the plug is the trunk. This car is amazing, hardly any rust. The trunck was slightly pitted and came out great. After I shoot this blue the plug goes in. I finish the trunk completely because after the plug is in there is no way to paint it unless you have super loooong arms.  :yesnod:

I can't wait to start on the plug. Shooting for the end of Oct. By Nov. the car should be ready to shoot blue.

Anyone notice anything different?

:coolgleamA: looks good !! nice work  , keep the pictures coming !! love looking at this kind of stuff  :yesnod:  :popcrn:

(anything different ) :scratchchin: two less body plug holes  :scratchchin: :popcrn:

Dane looks great, was curious how it was going to turn out after we met at Marks shop. But I'm curious, you said it was tested at 120 mph AND hitting a deer?  Got any pics of that for fun?

I wish - I was 20 years old, never even owned a camera. Never thought of pulling out my phone from my pocket and taking a picture :)

Mounting the nose - for a clone to me - need not be so complicated as the Z brackets are (and sloppy to boot). If it was engineered today - that would never be done. So, if mine is a clone, I'm doing it a better way. 4 Bolts and my nose of off. My car is much lighter now too.

Dane -

I was wondering if you might have some more info on how you built up the nose to get it to fit so well.  I have a Superbird nose - no Z-braces yet, and would love a better, nicer way of attaching it.  Would this system work with fibreglass fenders?  Would I have to be some sort of rocket scientist to make it work?

Any chance you could PM me your emaill address?  I tried to PM you, but your inbox is full...you're obviously a popular guy.

I am still YEARS away from completion, so I thought I'd start picking your brain now...I hope you don't mind.

Thanks!

I did not know my mail box was full - I thought no buddy liked me :)

I would say off the top of my head, that FG fenders will not work the way I do my nose. I need the strength of the actual fender that is tied to the Radiator support for rigidity. Then down the side and bottom for the same reason. The only option is if you used a steel reinforced fender flange from the radiator support to the front of your fender.

Lighthorseman

Thanks!  I thought there might be a hitch with fibreglass fenders.  Of course, I still don't have fenders of ANY type,  :shruggy: so I'll keep this in mind.

Daytona Guy

There has to be some 70 fenders out there for you. Even on this board.

Looks great Dane! Did you find your vega window and how many hours did it take you to do the plug and trunk conversion?
Thanks! :2thumbs:     I want to do as much research as I can before I get started on mine. This is the 1st time I am doing a conversion. I have my vega hatch and 3rd generation dutchman panel and trunk closeout panel as well. Any help would be appreciated.  :icon_smile_big:

Thank everyone - I do things one day a week, so it took me a couple of weeks - working here and there. It is not easy - you really have to have an eye and feel for it - a lot of adapting as you go. It is not like they made the Vega hatch for the Charger rear plug :)

They say they have a Vega in Sherwood Or but they will not tell me if the hatch is still there - U- Pull it rinky dink outfit.

For all you guys that have done them. I just picked up the Vega rear window hatch for mine. Does anyone have dimensions or a schematic on how you located where to center the rear window to be correct?

Beat the tunnel out and shove it up as his as you can get it (after you cut the back reinforcing of the hatch off) - then your good. You get it too far up (that seems impossible) the top of the hatch will be too high and you will not be able to match your roof line with the metal piece that you use to fill in the gap at the top. You want 11.5 inches from the bottom of the window to the trunk lid.

I guess now I just need to get the 71-74 Charger Dutchman panel, an original decklid, or the dimensions to modify my decklid or find a deck lid already done.
