'68 Charger Quarter Panel Fitting

I'm trying to fit an AMD quarter on a '68 Charger and I'm having trouble with the alignment in the corner where the rear side passenger window meets the quarter and the roof panel.  There's a piece of sheet metal that the quarter is supposed to hang on to.  I can get the quarter over this little piece, but it pushes the quarter too far forward, and then it interferes with the door closing.  If I section the edge of the quarter to match the little hanger piece, the quarter should fit really well.

I checked out some other internet sites with photos of full quarter replacement on the Charger and it looks like others have had the same problem.  It looks like their solution was to slice the rounded edge of the new quarter and re-form it to fit it properly on the litte hanger piece.  Has anyone had this issue?  How did you solve it?

:scratchchin:  is the top edge of the roof opened up enough to let the quarter slide under  , where i have arrowed in green  first picture !!  looks  like that bit is stopping it , from the picture   :scratchchin:

also second picture have you removed the part marked in green  ,  you prolly have , but its hard to judge whats going on when looking at something on the computer & not being there in person to  problem solve

Feel free to post any relevant picture you think we all might like to see in the threads below!

When I did mine over the summer I cut that little hanger off right at the point it starts to curve up because the flange for the window fuzzies gets in the way. I just rewelded the hanger back in after the quarter was fitted. Like Tan Top said though, if you havn't already cut off the part in green towards the window, that needs to go to.  Just make sure that you pre fit your trunklid, rear window and rear window chrome before you weld it in just to make sure of your gaps.

I ditched that bracket too, both of them.

So this is what I ended up doing......

I sectioned the rounded edge at the back of the rear passenger window to fit over the hanger bracket.  It fits really well now.  I test fitted the quarter/rear window stainless trim and it fits as intended, and is the right length.  I'll weld up the gap in the quarter and then section further up (where the red arrow is) to improve alignment with the roof drip channel.

The preliminary fit and the body lines of the AMD quarter are the best I've ever seen.

Here's some preliminary photos of how well the quarter meets the trunk filler panel.

Please post a pic of left side of deck filler to sail panel

It's nice to see pics of this stuff as I am currently working on doing the same to my car. Helps me see that there is some light at the end of the tunnel.

Jeff - if you are referring to the fit of the driver's side quarter sail panel to the trunk filler panel, I don't have any pictures worth showing you.  Some previous work was done in this area and the new AMD trunk filler panel doesn't fit correctly.  I don't know if the trunk filler panel is short or if the existing quarter/trunk lid bracing is the issue.  I'll be in a better position to comment on its fit after I check all pieces for fit and then remove the driver's side quarter!  I just realized you are the guy doing the same type of work to your '69.....I've been following your thread.....nice work on the trunk floor!.....

We are so lucky these days to have repro body panels that fit reasonably well and forums like this one to discuss the work......when I started with this type of work 20 odd years ago, the repro panels didn't fit (the ones that were even available), and there was no internet.....  Guys like us required therapy after cutting the quarters off a coke bottle Charger, only to have another 100 hours of additional work to make the quarter skin look correct..... :RantExplode:

Guys, Please keep it coming.
I'll be getting into hanging both 1/4's , trunk fllor, rear valalce, both end caps , dutchman panel, tail light panel and trunk lid on a 68. probably sometime first of next month.

And being armed with  known fit issues before hand will be a huge help  :2thumbs:
