Hi, Im new to the sight, and new to operating on a forum. I joined because i would like to know if any of you educated winged fellows have any information on a Superbird that i found and purchased in April of 2004 that was sitting in a outbuilding in Rising Sun MD.near the college, Long story short the car was last registered in 1981 with PA. stickers. It has been in my hands now for 8 years this April and I have never tried to find out any history on it and after reading posts on this sight you guys have me pumped to find out more about it's past! The VIN # is RM23U0A167142 it is a numbers matching 440 4bbl. with a column shifted auto. with white bench seat.original fender tag is there,The car is EK2 vit. C orange, the vinyl top and all of the interior is original and clean. The car was repainted around 1977 according to the man i bought it from. The actual mileage when i got it was just 40k orig. miles. I have put about 3,500 on it since then. ( i had a lot of mechanical things to replace to get it road worthy from sitting ) I found the broadcast sheet under the back seat, it is near mint. the one i found under the drivers side of the front seat is trashed. I may or may have joined a club when i first got it in 04 but never followed through. I post pictures when i figure out how to on here. My car is the one that DRIVES to Ocean City MD. to the huge car show/cruise in. I always go down to the event in the evenings, however this year i will be in the actual car show at the inlet parking lot. Thanks.

NASCARXX29 ,Yep that is mine alright !!  that's funny you have a picture of her, that was from last year because the past years she has always had the stock rallyes with polyglass Goodyears that i picked up from Coker Tire. It is amazing how many people do take pictures of it. i put those mag wheels and tires on it this past summer. After about 7 years of the rallye wheels i needed a change .I have the originals in my garage of course. you would not beleive what i went through to get lug nuts for the one side! left hand threads! what's that all about?? i wonder how many studs got busted off at garages back then with a impact gun! Thats the 1981 PA. sticker on the front windshield corner. ( i just left it there ) Thanks for posting the picture!

Sounds alot like this one.  Can't wait to hear the story behind it.

Awaiting the superbird story name dates and places.Maybe we can fill in some pieces of the puzzle :Twocents:
If you trying to learn more on cars prior history .Id try both wingcar clubs first.Or try to find out what part of PA it came from .Maybe glovebox paperwork dealer name.Oil change decals on door jambs may have dealer or service station location to pin point the area car was in

Digging through papers in the glovebox here is what i found so far..A old business card from "car village" Timothy N. Toms ( T.N.T. ) hi-performance dealership. The address on the business card is 2300 W. Cumberland ST. Lebanon, PA. 17042.The mans name that  i bought it from is Bryan Dugger, who lives in MD. I do not think he ever tagged the car in MD. There is paperwork in the glovebox stating it has to go through MD. inspection first, mileage on that form is 39k miles. :popcrn:

That dealership was big in the early eighties for selling used muscle.

I was there around 82 but dont really remember much about what was there.

You can put your pictures on a site like photobucket.com, flickr or a bunch of other picture sites and link to them from here. That way you can post pics with a size of 800x600, 1024x768 or something reasonable like that.

Thanks, i will look into that when i get the time ,i have a lot of detailed pictures of the car in the body shop etc i would like to post in a larger form, as well as the broadcast sheet, etc. This picture was from last year coming into a local car show, got the new rims on it now. :D

It seems like alot of winged cars came from the PA area.    They just keep popping up every couple years.   I local guys based out of Western PA, Lou Hudacek has a yellow Superbird that's in the process of being painted out in mid PA somewhere.   He also has a few garages of six pack and hemi cars not to mention he has more parts than Chrysler did back in 70.    Are there any statistics as to dealership sales regarding winged cars.   I'm willing to bet a majority came from the Eastern US.

I work with a friend of mine that grew up in PA. His grandfather owned Landsdale Chrysler Plymouth, my friends father ( owners son )was a mechanic there when these cars were new, he had owned a new bahama yellow road runner 383 4spd. anyway he said he remembers two superbirds coming in , one orange with white interior, 440 4bbl. :scratchchin: the other i think he said was blue, and i think that car has been restored with a white vinyl top and nose mask..i kinda think i saw that car at Mopars at E-town around 04-05 maybe? That would be neat if it was mine that they had on their lot. I take it there is no way by the vin # to track what dealer they went too?

FJ5WING

My car originated from the Mid-West area and migrated east around 82-83 and then in 85 I took over as caretaker.

@ FJ5WING, my favorite color on a Superbird is the limelight green, next choice is Petty blue! There used to be a limelight Superbird that sat in Pittsville MD. under a pole building in the owners back yard. I think he bought it in the mid 80's and i beleive his name is Jay.

I scanned some more pictures this evening,  :2thumbs: here are some more, the car before paint with the scoops and center wing brace in flat black, nose mask painted on and is all the way down to the bumper strip.( same as in old dealer photo )  original interior picture after i cleaned all of the mold spores off everything, dash, door panels, seats, etc.  the carpet and vinyl top are factory original also still has the original am radio and works.they suck!  :eek2: I have been so tempted to replace it, but i just can't for some reason! i may try to find a vintage fm converter on E-bay or something. :D

Third picture is a close up of the nose and it's condition, no rust issues just some minor creasing.

Last picture is the worst damage to the car, passenger 1/4 panel. The man i got the car from said he spun it around and put it in a grassy ditch when it was wet out, :RantExplode:  he said he was sick about it and that i think is part of why he never did any more with the car. :eek2:

GOTWING

first picture is the lower patch panel we purchased to repair the lower 1/4, the rest above was saved.

second picture prep work is finished.

last pictures,primed and after paint

GOTWING

Some more random shots in the body shop, this was a very minor cosmetic restoration. After the car was painted and the new decals were applied, we purchased 2 new new wing gaskets and bolts, door handles, hood pin kit, rear bumper, front bumper strip, new exhaust tips, with new 3" TTI full exhaust with
H-pipe, i made sure they masked off the door jams and did not paint the underneath of the trunk lid where the original jack label was. I did have both sides of the hood painted though. They also masked down the inside of the underneath hood area and it is left the original paint. Restoration on a budget! :D someday maybe i will have the engine freshened up and detail the engine compartment..  :shruggy:

prep work on the nose, these guys did a outstanding job on the body and prep work on the nose. :2thumbs:
