Ive heard about this one in WI of Elmer D from years of being in my club suppose to have close to original low 500 miles on it on this 440 daytona. Then I found this quote on the other mopar board((The Elmer D original owner, original 309 mile Daytona was delivered to the dealer in F6 green w/white wing, strange thing is that the fender tag says it's X9 black w/red wing!)) .Then I have a Pa car of Dennis S thats a 440 1700 mile car and being used as reference in a car magazine.Tim S of PA old 440 daytona now Bob M in Ohio was a MCG low mileage feature car 1700 miles or some.Followed by the Otis Chandler Brown 4 speed hemi daytona with 5000 miles on it .Formerly owned by Pa Don K then to Greg J to Otis Chandler hands .Restored by Roger Gibson. Now Tim W car of ALThen the Va dealership Dressler motors 6000 mile 440 daytona was also a magazine reference story car feature. Then Larry B of IN his old 440 dealer installed 6 pack daytona now in MI of Browney M has 6700 at the time it was sold and later repainted and restored back to R4 red. Then NJ Chris S MCG featured daytona had 17'000 miles on a Vance Cummings of Mi restored 440 daytona .About the same miles for PA Barry Kanicks daytona 17'000 440 daytona. My 440 daytona has 22.000 on it.The NY B5 blue MCG featured car of B Cards had 23'000 miles on it.Followed by a Y2 440 daytona from NY with 22'000 Same goes for another NJ car of Joe G all chromed 440 to a 426 22'000 miles or so .Then a B5 Newport RI 440 car I think has  11'000 miles on it as described here on the board in the daytona with vinyl top post. These are recorded in my notes over the years and shows .Ive been to so the may have changed hands and mileages may have varied since I recorded them last So if you can furnish anymore or update with a new one.So I have one 5000 mile hemi daytona and the rest are 440-s. The other daytona related compilage. I did a while ago was daytona per state totals

good looking list there.

I wasn't aware that your Daytona was that low mileage Jim. Hopefully it turns out as nice if not nicer than your R4 car. Which by the way is a gorgeous example.

3-Daytona on here is Jim M. with the cars mentioned.

I believe his green Daytona that was just recently found has like 50K on the odometer. Not positive on that, but for some reason that figure jumps to mind.

So is this correct that only one (1) Hemi Daytona was sold in Wisconsin?   If this is true i know of the original owner who still owns the car to this day.

Paul,

That's more than likely the case, although it has been (rightfully) pointed out by others that there were occasions where cars were traded between dealerships, even out-of-state.  It's not possible to say absolutely for certain that it's the ONLY HemiDaytona from WI, unless we can identify where each and every other HemiDaytona was sold new at.  I'd peg the chances at 95% or higher it was the only one sold new there.

Does the proud owner you know live anywhere near Thiensville, WI?

I dont think its Bronze.  I'll ask my friend about the details on it.  Its my friends Uncles car.

hemigeno

Well, this is a classic example of what I mentioned earlier.  Thiensville is the "supposed" destination of the Hemi Daytona shipped to Wisconsin.  That does not mean it definitely sold from there, it's just the recorded destination on the Daytona Shipping List.

Paul, can you get the VIN?  The one listed as being shipped to Thiensville has a VIN that ends with 409066.

There's also the distinct possibility that a Daytona on the shipping list was recorded as a 440 car when it's really a J-code Hemi.  There was another Wisconsin Daytona, 409075 that was shipped to Watertown, Wisconsin.  It was shown on the list as a wedge car, but two of the more recent Winged Warriors lists shows it to be a Hemicar.  If it's a legit Hemicar, then there were two Wisconsin HemiDaytonas.  So much for me being 95% sure, eh?   :smash:

I have five or six exceptions such as this to run down, where a car is listed with the club as a Hemi and the Shipping List shows it to be a wedge.  There's only one instance that I have found where a club-reported car is listed as a wedge and the Shipping Lists posts the same VIN as a J-code Hemi.  It's hard to say if someone attempted any verification of the VIN's on the Club lists, but I doubt if that's the case.  The reason I can say this with confidence is that I have found several instances - seventeen, so far - where club-reported VIN's have numbers transposed or are off by a digit or two (they don't fit into the Shipping List's numeric sequence/pattern).  That would have a significant impact on the number of "known" cars, since several entries on the club lists would be removed if my suspicions are correct.

I will send off yet another email to Ed & Sue George.  I hope they respond back this time...   :eyes:

I e-mailed my buddy this afternoon and he said:

I know of two Daytona Hemi's that were purchased from Bernard's North Town in New Richmond.  My Uncles (Which I am not sure of the color, but I don't think it is black) and a Lime Green one which was painted black because at the time it wasn't considered a good color.

Was lime green an option for Daytonas?  Maybe he's thinking Superbirds...  I'll give him these VIN numbers and he can run them by his Uncle.  Hold off on what i say then untill i can verify what his Uncle really has..

Is that a blue car that also hasn't ever been titled or registered that has 11,000 miles on it? Or is this a different car? I've never seen this car, only heard various people talk about a blue car in that region of the country as being another untitled or registered car.

Which could be good news for a young man like me.

Thanks Dave.

I'm working on memorizing them too to make for less paperwork, but I am trying to get as accurate of a database as possible. I figure the more people who are keeping records of these cars the less chance 30 years from now for someone to try to pass of a fraudulent car as real.

Plus I figure 30 years from now I'll be one of the old people in the club, and people will be asking me questions and I had better have some answers.

Like they say, "better late than never" ::)  I finally talked to my friends Uncle last night on the phone about his Daytona and Superbird.  My friend was incorrect in saying they were both HEMI cars.  They are both 440 cars and the Daytona is a Red, Automatic car.  He will be at the Aero car meet in Milwaukee in August so maybe Doug S. already knows this guy.  He said he didn't buy the Daytona new but that he bought it in 1977.  So now we know the truth to the story.  Gosh it took me a year and a half to verify this :brickwall:.

Like they say, “better late than never” ::)  I finally talked to my friends Uncle last night on the phone about his Daytona and Superbird.  My friend was incorrect in saying they were both HEMI cars.  They are both 440 cars and the Daytona is a Red, Automatic car.  He will be at the Aero car meet in Milwaukee in August so maybe Doug S. already knows this guy.  He said he didn’t buy the Daytona new but that he bought it in 1977.  So now we know the truth to the story.  Gosh it took me a year and a half to verify this :brickwall:.

Your friend was partially correct in that Gary did own a Hemi Challenger hardtop.  He sold that to buy the Superbird a few years back.

Gary is the connection to the dealership in New Richmond who sold Elmer Duellman's car new.   In talking to people who remember the car, it is not proven, but believed it may have had a black stripe when it arrived at the dealer.  This was the car that was painted lime green before being offered for sale.

Are you saying it was probably a black car with a black stripe when it arrived at the dealership Doug? That would be an unusual combination. Not unheard of with Mopars, but would be for a Daytona I think.

Don't know if you have records of my old car or not so here's the vin if you don't.  XX29L9B410767, 440 4 speed sold new in S. California.  It had Cal Worthington Dodge license plate frames on it when I bought it (1982)and it had been in Az. since 72 so this was probably the original selling dealer.  They were in South Gate California.  The car was originally f6 with black interior but I painted it r4 in 1982.  Yea... I know but hey I was 19 years old, what did I know?  :brickwall: I last drove the car ( I sold it to a friend) in 2000 or 2001 and it had 48,000 miles on it.  The new owner has used it on the Hot Rod magazine power tour so I'm sure the mileage is at least into the 50,000 range now.  The new owner lives in Northern California.

Stripe delete on a daytona sure its possible, see line #6.(This has been posted before)The million dollar question is....Did any actually be built that way.Could also be the selling dealer removed a stripe at customers request.

One of my customers was a salesman for the Dodge Dealership here. He told me that all the Daytonas there were sold for dealer cost or less. He said people kept stealing the intakes and carbs and the owner of the dealership got tired of it and wanted all the Daytonas sold and off the lot.

The memo from T. Guzniak that is posted above by UFO came from my Daytona XX29L9B410767.  I found it under the carpet beneath the passenger bucket seat.  I made a copy and gave it to Jim Radke in 1982.  I assume the original is still with the car.

That was quite a historical find, and it was a great thing you did by sending a copy to the Winged Warriors!

  :2thumbs:

I'll check my stuff on Monday to see if I have anything on your former car, but Doug Schellinger's DSAC information is much more complete than mine.  Maybe he'll chime in??
