Here-or am I seeing things??

Hi Paul!  Am I understanding the descriptive & picture that was provided by another member as proof that Daytona's did not come with hood pads?  If so, does that picture of an "untouched daytona" mean that they also came without valve covers, batteries and air cleaner housings?
Just a random specimen heres another

Mopar John

While we are on hood insulation pads and hood to core support seals here is a picture of my unrestored R4 Daytona. Original Daytona hood with hood insulation pad and no hood to core support seal. As of now there is no broadcast sheet with the car but it does have the undercoating that would go along with the hood pad.

Way to go John ! :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

FYI expect questions from me , as I have newly acquired a winged thing in the same color combo.
I don't think we'll have any problems telling them apart though, when contending with such an immaculate car!

There was more than a little burnout action going with your car, John...

CONGRATS on the Musclepalooza Best of Show award!  I just read about it on Hemmings Daily, this is Awesome!!

Winged cars from the muscle car era are always crowd pleasers. Throw in a numbers-matching drivetrain with a bruising 440-cu.in. Mopar big-block mated to an A-833 four-speed manual and one of the most detailed restorations we've ever seen, and John Antonelli's 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona handily snared the Best of Show trophy at Musclepalooza XVI this past weekend at Lebanon Valley Dragway.

Overall, more than 3,000 attendees showed up on Sunday, September 2, to take in over 400 show cars and some 360 race cars, including the F.A.S.T. racers and the usual assortment of bracket cars, some of which were running well into the eights, including some with license plates.

John went to great lengths to return his Daytona to the exact condition it was delivered when new. That meant not only applying overspray on the weatherstripping, but also researching the exact pattern of weatherstripping as found on his car, not just any Daytona. Starting with a 26,000-mile car helped, but it meant confirming the date codes of not only the engine and transmission, but also such minutiae as the window washer bottle, the alternator and the starter. It meant returning the body to a condition "as sloppy as it was when it was original," according to John.

John contracted with Paul Jacobs, of Paul Jacobs Restorations of Evansville, Indiana, and Troy Angelli, of TA Restorations of Eldorado, Illinois, for the job, which was completed in early August, just in time for the Mopar Nationals. "The idea was to take the car and make it look brand new using as many original components as possible," John says. And they seem to have nailed that goal.

Today, the Daytona wears a coat of yellow paint in the same hue as it first wore in 1969 when Creative Industries assembled the car for Dodge, but several years ago at a prior Musclepalooza, John was cajoled to run the un-restored and then orange Daytona down the strip. While he doesn't remember the e.t. or trap speed, he does recall that he was not the most proficient on the strip as it was his first time.

Look for full coverage of Musclepalooza XVI in the December issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines

John,

You actually abused that thing a little?  Did you take it down the strip?  Congrats again!
