Bill Haigh  listed these in a facebook post and and said Digging through a pile of 300+ old magazine pics & ads when I saw this one. Pre-production Charger 500 with '68 side marker lights. Rumored there were about 8 of them made. I've got 2 of their VINs recorded. he had very limited info on them. One of them is red.

Believe one is Jerry Service car but did not know it had XX VIN.

Any info on these VINs appreciated.

I was under the impression all early 500's were XS cars. Best I can figure mine is a sept. car and it has the XX on the VIN. but the motor and trans. both have the S struck over with an  X. and I am sure it came off the dealers lot that way. :shruggy:

Early cars are XS on the fender tag, broadcast sheet, engine and trans, but not dash. There are some cars that are XS on dash but they are scattered through the run.

These are 1968 Models and the XX29J8B360711 is apparently the Jerry Service car. Has anyone gotten a first hand look at his car to see if the vin begins with XX? I have a call in to Jon Weibel the original owner of the Jerry Service car to see if he remembers.

Bill Haigh believes he knows who owns the black 68 500 and needs to investigate a bit more.........

David Benasutti 'I see what you mean To me that interior lock push button seems not towards the rear of the door

Douglas Croxford yep but look at the overhead view--the door panel is like 6" longer than the door pad. I looked at the pics on the flickr account and can't find a decent shot of Jerry's interior to compare.

Steve Bagley I think the car was wrecked and doors replaced before Jon Weibel sold the car to Jerry Service. The Burgundy original pic has locks further back quite obviously..........
