Hi everyone, don't get a chance to get on the site anymore. I'm too busy driving the Charger..........or fishin... anyway if Danny 69500 or nascarxx29 would check these numbers out we might put a friend of mine back together with his 69 Charger 500!

A little background first.Just   got back from a show in Naples and ran into Bob and his 69 RoadRunner.  Bob purchased the Charger in 1976 when he was 16 yrs old. He drove it as a daily driver in Long Island New York til Dec 1982 when it was stolen and never recovered.

I talked with him at length and his title has the VIN as XS29L9B144166 and the first thing I said it should be XX29L9B144166.

I then told him they may have recovered the car but since his title says XS and the car may say XX he may never have been notified.

I know Danny and nascarxx29 have some of the vins and was hoping they or anyone who has info on this Charger 500 could help with some info!

The Charger was a Dark Green, White Stripe, Black Interior auto console 440 v8 but had been painted Dukes of Hazard ORANGE when stolen.

Thanks in advance for any info and I can get anyone who has information in touch with Bob with a Phone Call, just PM me or email HEMI68ChargerRT426Bullitt@msn.com

Thanks! Steve

Hope your buddy finds it Steve. Bout time you showed your face again ;D
By the way, I have been doin a lot of fishing myself :nana:

69_500

Well I do have some info on that car, but nothing other than what you listed in your post. I had a note that it was titled as XS29L9B144166, but was a 500, have it listed as F8 green with a white tail stripe.
I had it wrote down as stolen in 1983, but my information came second hand from someone not straight from the owner it was stolen from. I'll make a note of where it was when stolen, and that at the time it was painted Orange. Sorry couldn't be of any more help to you. It is one of the early 500's as in one of the first ones to not be a HEMI that is.

KMPX2

From whay i understand the XS was a common mistake on those cars. But I would have to say that was cut up years ago & sold as parts.

XS29J8

Thanks for all the replies. I believe it was cut up for parts also, KMPX2.

nascarxx29, I had hoped you might know this car being from the area.

Danny he has the police report and other info you might want. If you'd like to talk to Bob, I'll PM his phone number.

Chris, I forgot about the registry, bad new it's not in your database.

Stve, there are real fish here in my back yard..........and a gator or two......speakin of fisin...time to go!!!!!!!!

THANKS!

Didn't mean to be a kill joy, I wish you all the luck in the world helping your friend.

Steve, I would love to talk to him. Does he have any more information on the car? Like some old photo's or anything? If he has the title, does he happen to still have the buildsheet as well? Or even a pencil rubbing of the fender tag?

Its likely that the car was parted out years ago. Since in 1982 a Charger 500 wasn't bringing very much money, actually I think many went for less than a standard R/T back in those years. So it would have likely either been parted out, or cloned into a Daytona. I'm guessing more along the lines of stripped and parted out though.

XS29J8

Hi Danny, I'll PM his phone number, I'm not sure he has the fender tag info vut he has the title and police report.

Soooooo, what did he have to say?  Did you guys find the car?

Didn't find the car but had about a 2 hour conversation with him on Sunday. Should be getting some additional information mailed to me about the car. No luck on finding it, but some other interesting things about the car.

Like what?   :shruggy:

Who paid for the long distance call?   :D

69_500

I paid for the call.

He had the car broken into 2 weeks before it was stolen, car was stolen after being pulled over by the same cop that did the break in report 2 weeks prior. He was pulled over for a wobbling tire, was told to leave the car there and pick it up tomorrow. Cop gave him a ride home, he went back the next day to the 3 lane busy road as he describes it, and the car was gone. Was parked on the side of the road, under a street lamp on a 3 lane road in New York.

XS29J8

Danny thats the story he told me I had forgotten most of the details. We're going to the Florida Mopar Nats in Ft Lauderdale Sunday and I'll be talking to him again. Hope he sends you some interesting info!

COP Sounds kinda fishy doesn't he......speakin of fish....time to go..........

69_500

Cop did sound fishy, considering he said that he didn't get a ticket but the cop refused to allow him to move the vehicle. Also that it was 3 weeks after his car was broken into and the radio stolen. The same cop who did that report is the one who pulled him over 3 weeks later and made him leave the car. Knowing that he let his insurance lapse.

ChargerHound69

???  All of a sudden the COP did it.  It was in New York in the early 80's, but it had to be the COP??

It couldn't have been those thugs just cruising by and seeing a Dodge Charger on the side of the road unattended.
:-\

bad1032

Yep cops fault owner wasnt smart enough to have it towed that night. Makes sence to me, NOT. Some of these statements people make are the reason some people shouldnt breed.

69_500

I never said it was the cops fault or that the cop did it. Just said it sounded fishy.

XS29J8

Fishy part is the COP allowed the vehicle to stay on the road endagering other motorists. He or She should have had it towed or impounded and given Bob a ride home. Bob was only 21 at the time and I'm sure still gullible.........No Blame to the hard working police officers on this board, just one that didn't do his or her job properly.

That is what I was trying to say about it being fishy. In that he wouldn't let him get it towed.

Any new fishin stories Danny or anyone? Thought I'd bump this back up now that we have our own Aero Site!

Danny, Have you received any info from Bob yet? I talked to him in Lauderdale last Sunday and he was having problems getting copies of some pics.

Hi Danny and all the new members, thought I'd bump this old thread again. I'll be seeing Bob again soon as our show season is getting ready to take off here in Florida! I have the pictures of his old 500 but can't seem to post them as my scans are too big.

Was hoping some of the new members may have some info on this lost C500!
Many Thanks again!

Hi Danny, the photos were in an old album and he couldn't get them out to scan! My wife spent hours removing each pic with dental floss then scanned and restored them to a disc! I tried to post them but they are to big. The wife is out of town and may know how to resize them so I can post them on the site when she gets back into town.

Thanks

Can't really see, but the C pillars appear to have SE badges on them, and yet the car has a 22" radiator? Seems like an odd combination.

Cool vintage pictures!!!! That car must of been cool in the old days. Hope you guys find it, Id like to see if its still out there roaming the streets and not sitting in some guys backyard or a junkyard. Or even worse, made into a bunch of Hondas :rotz:

I had this ad saved on my computer from June 2005

Hi wing car guys. I've got a 69 500 SE, F3 green with green interior, it is in a million pieces, but all the important stuff is there. I bought it with the intentions of making it into a Daytona, I figured half the work is already done, but now I'm not so sure. Danny and I have talked about the car at length and I keep teetering on fence about selling it or if I keep it, which direction I want to go. It is a factory a/c car, which obviously would be way off base for a Daytona, but my earlier position was "Hey, it's my car, if you don't like it, walk away" But now I'm thinking I should just build a clone from a-z and preserve what mother mopar contracted out. I need thoughtfull opinions on this one guys. The car is very solid (even the back window plug is pristine) I have an nos quarter for the left side (banged and patched years ago) and needs small sections of trunk floor and lower quarter skin on rt rear, no inner panels have rust and the floor is perfect. I don't have the matching engine or trans (440 auto on floor).XX29L9B23XXX.

The fender tag reads like this:
N85 R22 V88 26 G11 G33 H51 J25 M21 M31 AO1 AO4 A11 B51 C16 C55 F3 F3 CRG F8 CO4 925497 E86 D32 and the VIN. The roof has the two little tiny holes on each side of the "c" pillars for the se emblem, woodgrain dash, rocker moldings, a/c etc. I still have the back window and trim, 1mph strips, vin, fender tag, trunk lid (very nice) but I got the car with no front clip. I have 69 charger parts for the front, but don't have the 500 filler pieces or correct grill with the stand-offs. Danny would probably like the car if I put it back together, but if I do all that, I'll probably want to keep it. I just picked up an original A12 bee so now I have that project staring me in the face too. This sickness is going to kill me. I'm not posting here to advertise the car for sale, I just need some educated opinions from the guys that have been in love with these cars for the past 35 years. I used to ride in Rick Edward's bird when I was younger, been around these my whole life, but now with a gang of kids and too many cars, I just don't know what to do. Come on guys, gimme some

I'm not positive on where Todd's car wound up, but I know that he did sell it. He was on here posting not too long ago. maybe he will answer that one. I don't think it went very far from where he is though, if I'm not mistaken.

XS29J8

Thanks for all the replies. I doubt the car will show up but have to give it a shot. Maybe the Engine or some radiator core support with these numbers will come up sometime!

I wonder how it got those dents in the window plug? :scope:

The Aquamax...yes, this bike spent 2 nights underwater one weekend. (Not my doing), but it gained the name, and has since become pseudo-famous. :)

Did I miss something or is this an old post or this another car all together. Just going through some old postings and wandered if this was overlooked?? Is that a New York plate on a green winged car. If it's nothing then I'll remove my comment...

Not sure which photo your refering to in that thread. But I'm assuming its of the green Daytona, and if it is, then its a Michigan plate on the car.

Could register the car on this site was well.

http://www.lost-car-registry.com/browse.html

I lived on LI at that time. Don't remember that car from my old haunts on Deer Park Ave or Hempstead Turnpike. The police report says Nesconset, which was way out in the sticks.

Its not like today. That car parked on the street would arise as much attention as a 2001 Mustang GT would today. In my town, there were three LS-6 chevelles, two hemi cars, my 71 440+6 cuda etc. etc. all parked on the street or driveway, year round in the rain, snow or 100 degree summer days. it was a 16-20 year olds $1K-$4K car...nothing more.

Back then, the cops would usually make you park the car instead of writing tickets or taking you to jail for a DWI to cut you a break. Nothing that strange about that.

In the towns, the cops usually knew who you were or the car since you would be driving that brite orange charger with the loud cherry bomb/side pipes everyday. Not to hard to not notice that car from the crowd.

Probably stolen and dismantled. It would have been a low end/low value car back then...maybe they needed a hood or fender or something. The parts really weren't worth much back then, they would have popped off the vin tag and junked the car. Back then, junk yards did not ask many questions or require paperwork when taking cars.

Gotta agree....thats what probally happened to it. I hope its still out there though and didnt get taken apart and crushed :-\

I'm getting ready to leave the house now, but I think off the top of my head that 144162 is one of the odd ball 500's that has XS everywhere on it. I'll look it up when I get back home.

No bronze, the last six of the VIN are 144166 but this one was close and I had hoped it was a misprint, but turns out it wasn't..........

I added the VIN to the thread title in case someone missed it before, the Charger is a very early model with XS instead of XX on the title. We don't know if the actual VIN on the Charger is XX29L9B144166 or XS29L9B144166.

Many Thanks!

First time I've ever seen X529L9B on a registration paper... might be yet another reason these cars' histories have been hard to track down over the years.

:rotz:

69_500

Are those new pictures  of the car Steve? I don't think I"d seen those ones before. I didn't recall it having a 22" radiator is the reason I ask.

Thought that was a bit unusual but I've seen a lot of mistakes like this on registrations when they were hand typed back then................The VIN plate is another story, never seen a VIN Plate mistake in person.

Thanks!

Hi everyone, thought I would bump this thread again as there are several new members on the AERO board. This car has probably been used to preserve others but there is always a chance. Now I see people on here that had many of these cars over the years, maybe someone will remember this one...........

Cheers,

If the car ever turns up, which I'd really like to see happen, let it be in the hands of someone who's burned a few people over the years so payback time would be even sweeter.
