Vacuum line from canister to intake manifold

What is the factory diameter of the vacuum line running from the vaccum canister under the battery to the rear of the intake manifold?  Any help would be appreciated!  :yesnod:

Not to steal your thread, but I was kinda wondering the same thing myself since I'm about to install a new vacuum canister in my 69' Charger as well. Mine has all manual/drum brakes all round' and since I don't have a power brake booster the only hole that I see on the back of my intake is the capped off threaded stud for the power brake booster tube connection ( have an Edelbrock performer RPM intake). I'm assuming that this will work just as good. However, out of the two male studs on the canister itself, I'm unsure which is which to run to the intake manifold, or if it really matters...?

All I've learned is that:

- Yellow/Amber line runs to the top of the actuator,
- Green to the canister (but unsure which of the two male studs to connect it to),
- Plain vacuum line to the bottom of actuator,
- One line runs from the canister to the intake (unsure which male stud to connect it to),
- The Green vacuum line runs runs from the dash switch to the canister (again, unsure which male stud to connect it to).

Any info for us guys lost at this? lol

The vacuum T on the back of the intake manifold for a car with power brakes, has a 3/8
nipple coming straight up vertically, and a 5/16 port out of the side pointing up at an angle
for the head light vacuum hookup. But I believe the hose has a 1/4 ID.

if you have the OEM vacuum canister , can only connect one way ,  the larger line to canister & vacume tree on intake
line with green stripe , vacuum canister to second from top on the headlight switch
yellow- amber striped  line, to top of headlight actuator & top of head light switch
plain black line  to bottom of head light switch & head light actuator

On my manual/all drum brake car, I'm thinking that I'll have to get some kind of screw on fitting (with a smaller nipple coming off it) to put on the rear of the intake because I'm without a booster/vacuum tree and the rear intake threads are too big for a small vacuum line. If this is the way that I am to go, I'll need to find out what size that is for my Edelbrock performer RPM intake is and go from there...

Also, I checked my car, everything is hooked up correctly on the actuators - only thing that is throwing us off are two 'spare' vacuum lines going to each side = total of 4 altogether that we simply clamped off because they go nowhere, lol. Any ideas what these may be? They run right to the actuators but my actuators are already hooked up correctly.

you can get a vacuum tree fitting of any big block to hookup your canister. Here is a couple of pics of mine using the Edelbrock performer RPM intake.

I bought a new 750 cfm Edelbrock performance carb for my 440 engine and would like to know if anyone has a photo of the carb hooked up to the throttle cable and kickdown rod?  It looks like I'll have to have an adapter to hook up to my carb but not sure.  Any photos would be appreciated!

Thank you for the info as well regarding the vacuum/intake configuration.

Since I've never done something like this before myself, I'm assuming that, since mine is a non-power brake car, I can install a vacuum tree fitting that screws on the back of the intake - but cap off the top main portion and run the lower/smaller vacuum line directly to the canister. Just to double-check, is this the best and only way to go about doing this? I called Summit and they said that mine would require a 3/8'', but they don't have one with the vacuum tree to connect the canister. I'll do some ebay searches, but if anyone happens to know of one or has one I'd be interested is seeing what you may have.

And lastly, my green vacuum line for the canister is connected properly to the switch on the cluster, but it has been cut right around the starter relay region of the engine bay so I'll have to find an extra vacuum hose and connectors someplace to connect the cut point with a new section using the 'T' connectors. I was able to find the 'T' connectors on Summit, so I'm good in that department. I just have to find out what diameter size the vacuum lines are so that I can find out what size 'T' connectors to go with.

We thought about using the four leftover 'miscellaneous' vacuum lines that run to the actuators (both the yellow and black colored vacuum lines are already hooked up properly - they're brand new reproduction lines) and we have four extra black vacuum lines that we had capped off simply because they go to nothing and I wouldn't want them to use up any unnecessary vacuum power from the engine, etc. Do you feel that in snipping them off, re-plugging them, and using them as 'parts' would be an option for substitution for the 'green vacuum line' to the canister/intake section? Or does anyone know what these are to be used for before I go snippin'?

Aaron,

Since your car has manual drum brakes, you might want to check with an auto parts store and see.  I know sometimes they sell the brass fittings and they might have what you need.  Otherwise, I will check and see if I have that one that I had made up a while ago.

Hi Tan Top and Brian - Thank you for the replies gents,

I wish that I could post pics - I'm unsure how to do it just yet I'm embarrassed to say,  :icon_smile_wink:. But yeah, there are additional two lines on each side of the car. They're clamped off, so as long as they're not affecting the car that's okay, but I just didn't want to snip something that I'll regret later, lol.

Right after writing my previous post, I had just enough time to call Advance Auto and the gentleman there suggested that I bring in my existing threaded plug/pipe off the intake and he claimed that he can arrange a fitment with a vacuum 'tree' so that I can run a line to the canister. He also said that he has the 'T' connectors and extra vacuum hoses so that I can run lines from both, the intake to the canister and from the canister to extend the green vacuum line that had been cut my the previous garage for some reason.

I'll give this a try and see what they can do and hang onto the receipts. Just two questions if I could ask please just to double-check:

1.) When removing this threaded plug/pipe off the intake to take with me to Advance, should I disconnect anything else while I'm at it and just so that I do everything properly the first time round'?
2.) Since Advance is going to ask me what the diameter is on my existing vacuum rubber lines are in trying to match it up with theirs at the shop, I'm trying to find out by doing some searches. Does anyone know what it is off-hand by chance? Mine are reproductions and I'll see if I can locate the details, but any info would be great. If anything, if these 4 extra vacuum lines aren't serving any purpose, I may just snip a little off and take it in with me as the 'sample' piece... ;)

its difficult to say whats what over the internet  with actually being there your self  , & with out  pictures IMO for me impossible , whats the story on your charger ?  is it a resto started by the previous owner  or ?  no real telling what other guys have done , just because its been in a garage to fix something , does not mean its nessarly been done right ! no offence ment to anyone !! ,  what i would do follow all vacuum lines & find out where they all run to , even if it means unwrapping the forward head lamp harness etc , then see whats what  ,
what Brian resq302  said A/C vacuum lines  , yes could well be , but althoug mine had A/C  almost all under the hood was missing  , so cant help in that area ,
have just done a quick diagram of vacuum lines for you to follow  , &  anything other than this for headlamps  on your charger , i would remove  :Twocents:

there is only two T connectors used , one where the yellow line splits into two & one for plain black line that splits into two

Thanks man for the info and diagram,  :2thumbs: - I'm looking to get after it early next week when I have a few days off from work. If everything checks out at Advance Auto for the fitment, everything seems lined up and good to go. My dad looked at my new canister from chargerspecialties.com and asked which hole to use for both the green line/cluster switch and the one for the intake. The best that I could come up is that, while one is slightly larger than the other, perhaps the fitting is equally the same - its just to prevent a too tight of a wedge between the two lines...?

As for the harness itself, its a brand new one from Year-One and it was hooked up when the previous shop installed my grill. And, after spending a good amount of time carefully looking over what is hooked up already recently, everything is connected properly minus the new canister assembly. Another member was kind enough to instruct me on how to post pics, so I'll see what I can in the coming days,  ;).

I tried running my lines like the diagram you posted. Thank you. I am missing a T so I can run the black line to both lights. The black  line that I had to run to both lights was just sitting there. The Dumbass I had working on my car has no clue. Hopefully with a T for the black line will solve my issue. Thanks for the responses
