I know they won't be the "perfect" date but I have these two sets of NY plates with the original registration stickers.  The one that says 1 69 had stickers all the way till 73 ... I peeled them off.  I know that  1 of 69 is too early for my daytona, but it does say 69.  OR ......  I could peel the other plate with the 71 sticker one more year and get it to 1 of 70.   What do you think?  I'm opting for 69

IIRC you need to have the year of manufacture sticker to register the plates in NY....at least thats what I had to do with mine 16 years ago.  I bought an NOS decal for my plates...9-69

Also the plate # cannot be currently in use.....you can use the NYS DMV custom plate look up to see if the # is currently in use

Looks like the 8436EE plate is in use....can use that one :Twocents:

The first plate looks good though

Ok, I can say I'm impressed at the stuff you guys know.  I would have never thought abuot a plate being in use.  I just thought since it was an old one it was good.  Here's something I found.  A guy around here has original NY stickers and the earlier metal tags.  His stickers are $15 each or 25 for a pair.  Maybe I could find one later in the year.. perhaps around october or november.

For registration purposes any month will do as long as its in the year of manufacture of the car they are going on.  If you want to get technical as to having a month sometime after the car was built.....well then you must be a Mopar guy!

I nearly bid on a 1970 Indiana plate for my 'bird.  They were the right county, but I'd need a 1/71 sticker and these were 4/71, so I let it go.
