Had an opportunity to look at the bronze Daytona that the WPC Museum owns.

Noticed the wing is mounted off a bit, so I was wondering if there are any specifications for the wing to 1/4 panel location.

Driver side stabilizer is 3 3/8ths. from the back of the car.
Pass side is 2 15/16ths. from the back.     (Both measurements include the 1/4 panel extensions.)

Any "Creative" or Chrysler documents exist with the tolerances ?
I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

Is that the car with the RT badge on tail panel Old Ron Slobe car

:Twocents: Wouldnt the holes in the wing washers determine a uniform wing location

There must be some sort of placement data somewhere though, I can't imagine Creative being free to just place the wings wherever they felt.

:Twocents: The wing washer only fits in a certain location if it was pre dilled to some ? spec  wouldnt that pre deteremine where the uniform holes on the quarter panel end up on the production line cars ?

:Twocents: I dont even recall the superbird fleet manual having a wing placement spec.I think they had jigs or templates to go off of

I agree.  Perhaps a template, like the one for the 2 lower nose cutouts exists...   :Twocents:

But someone specified the jig or template.  They didn't just guess and hand it to Creative or tell Creative, "just put it wherever you think it looks good".

:Twocents: Ive seen in old newsletter they showed a creative used tool to locate front spoiler holes and nose opening cut outs .Crude looking but effective

I got a template to lay on top of my quarter panel to mark the holes for wing studs...still got it...I would think they would have had something similar at Creative when putting these cars together. I think I remember seeing that jig-tool for nosecone cut-outs on the Daytona...I thought I saw it in a DSAC newsletter.

if the holes were pre-drilled in the wing washers, I'm sure they would not mount the washer and drill up through the quarter panel from inside the trunk, would they?

Which is what I asked in my OP.   Chrysler, or perhaps Creative, drew up the blueprint and a template of some sort was made to locate the holes on all the cars.
In the case of this particular car - total history unknown - the wing is not square to the back end.
We know for sure that both front fenders and the hood are 70 Charger parts on this car, not the original sheet metal.
Perhaps a quarter panel was changed and holes drilled...  ??  :shruggy:

Maybe there is enough "slop" in the wing washers to account for some adjustment.  (if so, a correct known spec could get the wing lined up square.)
Perhaps the wing washers were off a little on the original installation.

Maybe someone out there will read this and have that template!

"slop" was my first thought. with one side fully forward, and the other fully back, it might be possible to get 7/16" of variance from it.

the wing on the one here is just finger tight to hold it on, and will move rather noticably.

I noticed the wing is centered on the stripe, so it's the stripe that was laid down a bit off...

Any factory specs for the stripe ??   :shruggy: :shruggy:
