Bought a new bulge hood but have questions like what year .and it has one cracked spot in the paint is this from bondo or rust or a defect in the paint it was my dads hood but it's been in a loft of his storage shed for awhile and I'm sure had some heat to it

The Vents at the back of the hood will tell you what year, I believe they were different each year used. The crack can be from all the reasons listed above & more. LEON. :scratchchin:

Look at the vents in the back

Is there a difference in the 71 and 72 hood? It looks the same at the rear vents .

he choosed a wrong pic to show the 71... aside the cutout for the Bee or R/T insert ( there is not bulged hoods in 71 without cutouts ), earliers 71s got these:

notice no gap in between rear vents

HOWEVER, this changed somewhere in the middle of 71 production ( for whatever reason )

Is there a difference between that late 71 hood and the 72?

ODZKing

I beg to differ.  My hood came from a parted 71 Superbee. Except for the insert it is a 71 hood.

yeap, that's because the change came out in middle 71 production... one way to say its a 71 ( late or earlier ) is the insert cutout because in 71 production doesn't exist anykind of "plain" bulged hood. But INITIALLY 71s got no gap in between rear vents grille

Then 72s bulged never got a cut out ( no insert available on 72s ), BUT just the cut out for the N96 hoods ( RamAir hoods )

Said that, there is only one kind of hood which is "imposible" to say which year actually came out between 71 and 72 hood, is the later 71 kind with Rammed hoods, since 72s will be actually the same.

Sounds clear? LOL
