Went with some friends today to the track.  Small gathering but took it down the track.  Just time trail runs.   It's only an 1/8th mile but it was still fun.  Wish the car didn't have 3.23 gears in it - then again the gas mileage isn't TOO bad.  Video is a bit jumpy unfortunately.  And yes, I know my tailight is out.  It's moody, one day it works, another day not.  I keep forgetting to fix it.  The car next to me was a beast.

I'm sure the haters at moparts will give me "tips".  Maybe send me some "coin" for a better motor.  Yes, sarcasm intended!

Nice run Tom! So that's an easy mid to high 13 second car as it sits. Not too shabby for a big heavy car running on street tires. And yea, it takes a little more than 220hp to do that.  ;)

Tom, she did launch pretty well...............

Hey, did you know you have a brake light out?  :nana:

Maybe it's the turn-signal switch? Try applying the brake at home, wiggle the turn-signal switch and see if it comes on...

I'll give it a try - didn't think the signal switch had anything to do with that.  THen again, there's alot I don't know. I discovered at the end of the day my car cranked to start, then stopped.  Moved the shifter up and down once and it started.  Got to a gas station and then same thing except this time I had to hold the key to start and move the shifter back and forth till I found the spot and it started.  I know I had a hard time getting the plug on my neutral safety switch just right so my reverse lights would come on - wondering if it came loose a bit?  I don't think there's anything in the tranny that could need adjusting to push that little ball in on the safety switch??

Maybe it's the turn-signal switch?

Been there. My case it turned out to be a poor crimp.
Way to go , drive it like you stole it!

Here's what I remember from the engine - you tell me where it should be.  bore & stroke 4.35-3.75  - 10.25 compression - 1.5 -1 ratio roller rockers - 440Source heads that my friend did some bowl work to - comp cam xe275hl .231 Int  .237 Exh.  Pertronix Ignition - stock intake - stock carb - stock exhaust   Left that way so the car looks correct.

The launches got a bit better.  THAT was the very first run in that car.  I haven't been on a dragstrip since I took my AAR which I sold to pay off the loan on the Daytona.  Yes, I also raced a real AAR.

Right on Tom!! My 6 pack Super Bee runs 8.80s on regular BFGs in the eight and has run a best of 13.40 in the same trim at the quarter mile track. Congrats to you for having the balls to run it at the track. Looks awesome and runs awesome, so cool. :2thumbs:

That's a very nice car !  :drool5: :drool5:

Very cool to see it making a pass  :2thumbs:

How much does the car weigh ?  :scratchchin:

The 1/8th conversion works out to a 13.94 1/4 mile ET. Using the Moroso Speed slide rule it show's 250hp to run that ET @ 4000 raceweight and I'm guessing your car is heavier than that.  ;)

There is some power left on the table but it could be in tuning ; timing/jetting etc....

The stock intake manifold is restrictive and the stock carb is probably hurting power output as well. Typically a combo like that using a mildly worked Stealth head and the XE275HL cam with a set of long tube headers, good intake manifold, good carb and quick ignition curve should net a solid 450hp/500tq on an engine dyno at the crank.

From my experience the closed chamber aluminum heads make best power at 35* total timing with a quick curve coming in at 2200 rpm.  :yesnod:

That's still respectable for a mostly stock build, and better than "factory stock" times circa 1969. :Twocents: :Twocents:    I also agree that Ron can make it go faster if Tom decides to go that route  :2thumbs:

Its fun to win races and collect time slips  :yesnod:  but if I owned that Daytona.... I wouldn't do much more than sit back and enjoy it  :icon_smile_wink:

I'd build another toy to go fast.  :drive:
