hey guys im lookin at a 69 charger that needs work but the biggest thing for me is that it has rust where the sides of the trunk close, and on the top of the quarter, ive talked to a few people that said you have to fabricate a new piece, have you guys done this before?

There has been talk of new full quarters being reproduced in the next few years. A full quarter would have most of that sheet metal included. As far as I know, no one makes anything to repair that and it is not a flat area which makes it difficult to duplicate, but it can be done by a good sheet metal guy. If you're lower quarters look anything like that you need to either find used rust free replacements (good luck) or wait to see if those full quarters do become available.

yes it takes time, just don't rush the welding or the quarter will be wrecked, done mine a few years back out of  3 bits oF (L) shaped metal each side and a lot of measuring and lot of trial fitting plus make sure the trunk lid is left on the car and gaps are aligned before you cut any of the old metal away . alternatively get rust free parts cut off a donor car  or if your quarters are real bad all over , hole quarters .

I THINK RIGHT NOW THE EASIEST WAY OUT WOULD BE TO FIND THAT SECTION OUT OF ANOTHER CAR , THAT SHOULDNT BE HARD

terrible one

Ah, I've got this same problem, just not to the extent shown here. This is a sad reminder that I will have to tackle this some day.. :'(

It's best to get some cut off from another car if possible. Those trunk lips are made up of overlapped metal and it's difficult to get them to look right if you're fabricating them from scratch. Mine was rusted in between the overlapping pieces so it all got cut out and replaced (thanks to Pocket Thunder!).

Nice work Troy. You've got to know what you're doing to pull this job off.

Sorry guys, I paid to have that done - I have no skill whatsoever. I almost attempted it but then I woke up and realized my limitations. The guys at the shop did let me hang out and watch so I would feel more comfortable in the future. The only thing you see in those pics that I can take credit for is the bare metal before and the epoxy primer after.
