Anyone Recall a Yellow Superbird in New Jersey in 1980's?

I was telling a coworker about a Superbird that was for sale that I had looked at in the early 1980's in NJ. It was probably around 1982 or 1983. I can't recall what town it was located in, but I do remember the street, the price & the color.

It was yellow, black top & interior, almost sure it was a 440-4V automatic, had damage to the tail light panel near the key hole because the seller had it in storage & thought someone tried to break into it to get the wing. The dash was also hacked up with a big hole because they stole an after market stereo. It was a rust free car but had other minor flaws besides the above damage I mentioned from being driven.

The name of the street it was on was either Plymouth Road or Plymouth Lane, & would have been in the more northern part of New Jersey. I'll never forget getting directions on the phone & being told it was on Plymouth Road.  The asking price at the time was $5300 in the Want Ad Press. Some of you guys have all the winged cars memorized so I was curious if this one survived.

I had some money put aside & had been trying to sell a Charger back then. I was looking around for another car when I saw the yellow bird for sale. Of course I couldn't get rid of mine fast enough so I was never able to pursue the bird.

i lived in berkeley heights around that time frame. there was a family that had several superbirds. the dad was a contractor, and i believe the name was malusi. one bird was painted several times iirc, or they went through that many of them.   there was another kid from summit with one. he bought his with insurance money, he got after climbing a fence into a powerplant, and getting zapped on something high voltage. i'm thinking his was yellow, but it could have been b5. mine was white, and then it became blue.

Not familiar with Berkley Heights but I see on a map site that there is a Plymouth Drive in that town. It's also not that far from where I was living at the time, New Milford, NJ so there is a remote chance. :shruggy:

Maybe Dave will see this topic & check his records, he has lots of old ads going back many years.

I knew Dave would know.

Scotch Plains actually rings a bell & I see there is a Plymouth Road in Westfield right next to Scotch Plains.

The VIN isn't necessary Dave, but is it yellow & black?  :shruggy:

Now I see a Plymouth Road in Summit, too.  :scratchchin:

on the west side of summit, we used to meet up at a small place, either a&w, stewarts, or maybe dairy queen. it's been like 35 years.  :shruggy:  the kid from summit was a regular with his bird. i brought mine only once, and there was another guy from the county that had one too. my regular ride was a red aar, or a purple t/a. i moved to ridgefield park, then roselle park a few years later, and never made it back to summit or berkeley heights.  :nana:

It's been so many years I just can't recall which town & be sure of it. I'm sure if someone knew of a yellow one damaged on the tail panel it would be the exact car. Even if I could have sold my Charger quickly I am not so sure I'd have been able to come up with the entire $5300 at the time. My car was probably worth half that, so along with the cash I had saved I'd probably still be short by a grand.

There was another one right in the town I had lived in, New Milford, NJ. This one went up for sale around the same time & had no price in the ad & I called for two reasons. One, I had to know how much in case I could afford it, & two, I had never seen it in town. It was also a 440-4V car, blue, maybe the medium B-5 shade with a black top & interior, bucket seats with an auto shifter in the console. The car was perfect at the time & he was asking $10,000 for it. There was no way I could consider that kind of money & had told him on the phone but he insisted I come look anyway. At this point I couldn't stay home & just had to see it so I went. He was a really nice guy & we ended up talking Mopars for over an hour.
