Yankton, SD car show Daytona

I was surprised to see the "feature car" in this car show is a Daytona. I've never seen another Daytona in the South Dakota area. Does anybody know anything about this car, or its owner? Member here?

Edit- I tried to attach a car show flyer, but I kept getting "errors". This site is too fussy when it comes to posting images!

Edit: probably the size of your pic

Q5XX29

Yes, initially it was the size of the pic, so I resized it. Then the problem was that it had the same filename. Then it was that I had already tried to make a duplicate post. It would have been a lot simpler if I was on my PC, but I was doing this from an iPad, so resizing, changing the filename, etc. was more difficult... at least at 2:00 am when I was posting this thread, lol!

Are you guys saying that the red/white Daytona shown by thehemikid is the Charger from the Yankton, SD car show? Because the flyer shows what looks like a very stock, original red/white Daytona, and the name of the owner printed on the flyer is not Wally Edler. Maybe new owner, who restored it back to original? Was the Daytona you saw at the Nats years ago a real Daytona?

I will try again to attach the flyer from the car show. Thanks, guys. Just wondering if I have a Daytona Brother here in SD. However, I realize the car may be coming in from a neighboring state or something.

John  Conkling who is a beer distributor in Yankton SD owns a Daytona. I have never seen it, but my buddy told me that John ordered a 1969 Road Runner and the dealer sold it out from underneath him and he then bought the Daytona. I know of other Daytona in the area as well.

Just a coinkidink that I grabbed the 1st Daytona I came across in a file of Daytona's and just happen to be red/white,... what luck I have.  :icon_smile_blackeye:

I remember seeing at the Mopar Nats in 1990, and it was unfinished at that time. It had to be pushed around, and I don't believe the engine was complete or able to run.

Yep, Conkling looks to be the last name on the Flyer! Cool- thank you! I may have to try and make the short trip to Yankton and visit with him. Probably will leave my own Daytona behind, since he is the feature car... don't want to rain on his parade, lol.  I wonder where the other Daytona you are referring to might be? I have seen a few Superbirds around, but never any Daytonas. Everybody thinks mine is just a clone!

That sure is nice of you to want to keep your ride at home.  A lost, classy act in this day & age.

Imo, there can never be too many wingcars at an event.  If I see more than 1 at an all Mopar show I consider the show a success.   :icon_smile_wink:

I've never owned anything but a MoPar. Can you say that?

held1823

i say take yours and wow the crowd with a pair of daytonas.  his is likely a "feature" car for advertising the show, and not the focal point of the event

Well, I did make it to the car show, and saw the Daytona. It was a bronze color, not red and white like it appeared in the flyer for the car show. I was not able to find the owner anywhere. The car was quite rough but had a cool "survivor" look to it. Apparently, it is a one-owner car, which is very cool. I wasn't sure if the interior had been modified a bit- it looked like it had a '70s type of velour insert in the seats, but was cloth available for the Daytonas? I wasn't sure.  The car looks better in these photos than it did in person. Still, was very cool to see an original owner Daytona here in SD. Wish I could have visited with the owner a bit. There were a few other cool Mopars there as well. Also saw my first Hellcat Challenger there.

I will try to post a few photos I took, when I am at my desktop. Trying to post photos from an i-device is about freaking impossible on this website.  Is Dodge Charger.com available on Tapatalk?

Photos from show. Not sure what to make of the "bumblebee" style of Daytona stripe.

Yes, cloth inserts were available - but only in black, under Sales Code C5X (pretty much the same available interior options as Charger & Charger R/T).  The tan velour is definitely a custom job, but they did replicate the original stitching & button pattern.

Thanks for posting the photos.   :2thumbs:

Cool car.   Did you happen to get the last six digits of the VIN?

Q5XX29

Sorry, no. But if I zoom in on my original photo of the windshield, I can make out the first part: XX29L9B40297....

Friend of mine with the bronze Daytona!  Low miles survivor!  Somewhere around 34k miles!  Photo in flyer was just a 'stock' photo showing a Daytona Charger.  I've known of the car since about 1977!  Was painted blue with a Pabst Blue Ribbon logos for many years and used to advertise for their beer distributor company!

Redbird

If it was repainted at least once maybe twice I don't think it is a "Survivor", it is just a very nice old car
