Hello,

First post long time reader. After many considerations and everything inline i'm ready to buy a 68 charger. Which is imho one of the best looking cars in its era. What are the things to look for when purchasing a car online ? How can i tell if the car has any rust on it if it isn't restored. The issue is I won't be able to see the car as i'll have the car shipped back home so it'll be a purchase based on pictures/videos etc. Any help or info is appreciated.

Thanks
Yousif

Participating in this forum is an excellent start!
Every specific situation will be different so only generalities are applicable at this point.
It's easy to misrepresent a vehicles condition online, and there are some rather infamous examples that have been discussed here.

For starters, are you looking for a project or a driver?

Thanks, the more I read over here the more I appreciate the knowledge that members have contributed for guys like myself that aren't new to chargers but didn't have that much info before. I'm actually looking for a running project, i.e. a car in running condition that isn't pristine per say but will be able to drive for a couple of years so i can save up and restore to my liking.

daveco

Personally, I think that is the category of vehicles that represent the best value.
Does it matter to you if it is a big block or small block?

No to be honest at least its solid and in running condition

I bought my 69 in my avitar picture online without ever seeing it in person

The seller was a great guy and did everything to help me out

We ended up doing a face time thing over the internet where I could see the car live and he went around with a screw driver poking holes (or trying to) in all the regular soft places to look for rust
Saw everything there was to see and bought the car

Maybe see if your seller would do that for you

I've bought and sold a few cars sight unseen.

It's always a risk, but i think you can get a really good feel for a person by how they present themselves over the phone.

As a seller they should provide a serious buyer with as much info as possible. If someone starts to get wishy -washy or can't take a few simple pictures for you then move on...

Even if you are looking at ebay auctions ALWAYS contact the seller and get on the phone with them.  Good luck!

Looks like a nice car- I wouldn't say its "very rare" but.....
The fact they are disclosing the rear quarters have been replaced is a good sign that they are being up front with what they know about it.

At that price you probably should go check it out in person if possible, or hire someone from here to do it for you. I'm sure there's someone here who lives in that area.
I'm sure there's even people who would do it out of the goodness of their heart.  :yesnod:

I bet you could get that car for less than $37K.

The car looks nice in the photos with the exception of the grill, it looks like there is a problem in the upper center area.
...and wouldn't you know it, no detail photos of that area.

Good catch- also trim piece popping up from rear window which is a famous rust/ bondo area.

There is this pic of the grille- just looks tweaked a little

daveco

Just noticed it's an A/C car.
Cars like this one worry me because many times the car is far removed from the individuals that did the work.

I called them and was informed that the car has a deposit on it so onto the next one although I haven't noticed the front grille thanks for pointing it out.

What do you think of this one ? This seems reasonable don't you think.

Thanks again for your inputs.

It was previously a 318 column shift auto and now a 383 engine. Had lower rear quarter changed and has no visible rust or rust bubbles except for some surface rust in the under body.

If you find one, it's possible a DC.com member local to the car would be willing to look at it for you.

GTSilver

I'll probably get an independent person to check the car, as others have mentioned for that amount I'm not so sure about buying a car as is without seeing it.

Great idea.  ---Too many fear missing a "good" deal only to end up with a bad one to be dealt with. ---The market is rough.--(as are many cars  :slap:).

Don't forget the value and fun part of this hobby.  -- The hunt. -- Meeting new people and sharing stories along the way.

The buyer is in the drivers seat in a deal.

What do you think of this car ?

Is it worth it and are there things that should make me concerned.

Thanks

Too much for a non R/T Charger.

Consider yourself lucky. The grille wasn't the only glaring issue on that roach.

No offense, but you seem to be determined to buy one ASAP without knowing anything about what you are looking at. See below...........

Too much for a car with a grren interior that's a complete mess.

This one is still going to need some work but doesn't seem too far off compared to others. I would still have someone go look at it for you.

If you have another 10-15 grand to spend over those two roaches, you can get a nicely finished (non-R/T) big block 68 Charger.
