Howdy gang,

hotrod98 told me to come on over here and introduce myself...

I'm the lucky SOB that won the "Win the King's Car" contest put on by Sue Bee Honey.

My daughter is working on a web page to showcase it and there's enough info posted now to see what I got.  I'd appreciate it if you could check out my new baby and let me know what you think.

Very lucky indeed! Everyone here wishes they could be in your shoes. Just out of curiosity (and I've always wanted to ask a contest winner this question) how much did they get you for in taxes?

Congrats.  You are one lucky person :yesnod:

Welcome to the site.

Thanks guys.  It really is an eyecatcher.

The taxes will be due next year.  What happens is that its reported as income just like someone paid me $50,000.  Right now my wife, the financial expert, has figured it to be 12-14k.

When they called about announcing me the winner they made me take a couple of days to talk to a financial consultant and find out what "hidden" charges Texas had for prize funds.  Luckily Texas doesn't have a state income tax.

My neighbor is a CPA and he's working on making it into a promotional business and maybe I can write it off.

i'd have no problem, not eating or whatever(still drink beer though, can't give up the beast) saving up to pay those taxes.
I've always maintained my texas residency cause of that reason(military) maybe i'll take orders back there next year, hmmm...

I too have a Petty Blue Superbird, and will be picking up my Petty Blue Superbird this Saturday. It has been having a professional nuts and bolts restoration on a rust-free car for the last four years -- and is finally finished. It was Dave Kanofsky's car. It was originally delivered Vitimin C Orange -- but repainted Petty Blue early on. The below is a 1974 photo of it. SInce all but a year or too has had this car blue -- I kept it that way for historical purposes. (plus I like it better)

These are a couple of photos of it a couple of weeks ago, prior to its final detail and correct battery. It was entered in a pretty big show last weekend -- and took Best of Show.

I'll be selling this car to finance a business and the restoration of my b5 Blue Superbird (also 6bl 4-speed -- but with white buckets and console).

If your friend is looking for the best -- this might be it. The guy (Ken Presley) who restored it has received a Best of Show for his Alpine White everytime shown -- including the 2004 Monster Mopar -- and he'll tell you this car is better.

It sucks to have to pay that much in taxes so I guess you'll have to pretend you're buying it for $14k, which is a helluva deal.

The King is my Hero and (I even have a little Petty Shrine in my office) and I'd love just the opportunity to have set next to him.

I checked out the 5 pages of photos on your site -- but didn't see any under the hood or interior. You have any photos of that?

Meeting the King was one of the biggest thrills of my life.  He made sure to spend some time with me even though there was hundreds of people pulling him different directions.  What an incredibly busy "retired" driver!  My wife stayed inside the media center after my presentation and 15 mins. later Richard came back in with an entirely different garb and she heard him ask somebody "What am I promoting now & why?"

Yeah, I have photos of the engine bay, interior and trunk somewhere (the insurance co. required them).  I guess I didn't give them to my daughter to post.  I'll find them and post them soon.

That's what I thought too, when I saw the 426 c.i. on the hood.  And they actually considered doing it but their lawyers talked them out of it for some obscure liability reasons (damn lawyers).  It's pretty disappointing to open the hood and not see a Hemi.

I am certain you could add one

I'm installing a crate hemi in my challenger convertible. The motor was 12,200. but the boltons are running another 2 grand so you can pretty much plan on spending over 14k.  Would be an awesome ride though.

I thought about that but it will have to wait until all the money has been squared away next year.  What's the cheapest hemi I could buy?  It seems like everything I see is over 10 grand.

Like bull said "It sucks to have to pay that much in taxes so I guess you'll have to pretend you're buying it for $14k, which is a helluva deal."  It is an incredible deal but I wasn't expecting to pay that much extra this year so we'll have to watch the budget.  Believe me, I'm not complaining,  there's no way I could justify buying a car like this and still be married!  :-\
