How much in and out slop is acceptable on a power steering pump shaft ?

I just bought a remanufactured Saginaw style pump, and when I went to install the pulley I noticed what seems to me to be excessive in and out movement on the shaft. about 0.060" or 1/16", possibly more.

I've asked around a bit, and I get various responses from "It's junk, you got screwed-throw it away or send it back."

Or "That's normal. Run it"

Or "A fair amount of movement is fine, that's how it self aligns to the the other pulleys/belts."

I have another one of these pumps that's been laying on the shelf for the past 30 years and it does not have anywhere near as much play in it's shaft.

Opinions?
