There are rumors of 3 of these Birds in existence. One well known model was shown at the Garlits Museum for quite some time and was briefly advertised for sale, with no price, in the Winged Warrior newsletter. That ad has disappeared, as has the car. Rumors are that it's price was way, way beyond market prices but I can't verify that. Rumors also exist of the owners "difficult to deal with" manner also exist, but I can't verify that either. Several pictures have been posted of that car but I have never seen a picture of a fender tag for it.

Rumors of a 2nd one exist out of New York that is in pieces. I reached out to the owner of that car (if it exists) after being provided a Facebook link and was pretty firmly told no interest in selling or discussing, with emphasis. I will keep trying gently on that one, possibly at Carlisle in two weeks where the rumor is that the owner will be in the parts for sale area.

Finally, I have heard rumors of a rootbeer Bird in Canada, but there are only rumors of its existence, with no leads.

But, I am unaware of any central thread of these cars. If anyone has pictures or information of the Garlits Bird, particularly with a fender tag shot it would be nice to have it in this thread since we do know it actually exists. Similarly, if anyone has pictures or information on the New York FK5 rumor, any info on this thread would be appreciated by all of us. And if the Canadian rumor is true, any info on it or unknown versions would be great too.

Please do not hijack this thread with other stuff-let's try to keep it as a central thread for FK5 Superbirds. I will be at Carlisle in July 2022 in the survivor tent with the Petty Blue 6 BBL Bird if you go there and want to share any private information or even better, contact information with price, or just want to shoot the bull.
Thanks
Bob

the 1st one to surface was owned by Dave Jones in Indy.
Im sure Danny knows the car well .

Best I remember was 3 known for sure to exist.

Where did Jerry Juenemanns FK5 Superbird end up? He owned one & had it displayed in his Wheels & Spokes Museum in Hays Kansas in the 80's & 90's. I have the Original Article on it in Magazine somewhere. Hope this question is not a highjack. LEON.

I was thinking that the car that was in the Garlits museum is the car that is now in New York owned by Steve N. So maybe 2 of the cars are now in New York ?

Excellent stuff, thanks guys. I have now received privately a bit more info I am chasing too and will post if confirmed.

The car that was in the Garlits museum is not the car owned by Steve.
The car from the museum is an automatic car and Steve's is a 4 speed car.
Both of these cars are well known in the hobby!
It is the third car that is often mentioned but little is known about?

The FK5 bird that was owned by Dave Jones received a lot of print in muscle car magazines back when it first appeared on the scene.

Here's one of the articles. from "Guide to Muscle Cars" October 1989 issue.

Somewhere I have pictures (actual prints), of another FK5 bird that was at the Mopar Nats back in the 90's.
Not certain if its one of the other cars known to exist but, certain it was not this car owned by Steve. At that time several other FK5 birds had been found / identified to exist.

Redbird

I've spoken to the gentleman from NY, at Carlisle on a couple of years, who has told me he owns a Rootbeer Superbird.  He and one of his buddies had a truck full of old parts for sale. A fair number of wing car parts among them. He had a center valance panel that he was claiming to be original. I showed him why it was a reproduction. Then he hauled a NOS one out of one of his trucks and said "oops".

He seemed pretty knowledgeable about the cars. He told me he had an original Rootbeer car. He did not show me pictures. Put himself out as someone who had money, but who knows.

Redbird

Here was their booth at Carlisle in 2017.

Doubt hed remember me but if hes local I'm gonna try to get out there...or where ever hes at.

I have lots of video on an old 8mm and pix from when I came back to visit.  All the time I lived here, they were just cars, lol.
