I'm trying to "clean up" the engine bay of multiple relays everywhere (headlight upgrade, AC, EFI ect) I WAS planning on using this old BUSS out of a 2002 jeep as it offers some advantages as

- one power strip going in to supply then going to relays as opposed to multiple power wires
- looks cleaner
- all relays in one place

so questions are

1) Where should I take power from ? for the headlight I take it right off the ALT but is that a good idea to use that for other accessories?
2) take a look at that little relay, it has a 25 AMP fuse, that should be good for most stuff right?
3) also with small fuse it has 5 pins, could I use it in a 4 pin set up? Luckily the headlight relays just drop in but there's only two slots

Thanks in advance!

Make a list of EVERYTHING you want to use relays on, include amp ratings. Compare list with relay bank. (Use online schematic for whatever that came from.)
I just used 4 40 amp relays fed off a mini fuse panel.

AKcharger

yeah I think this is a bigger project than just a weekend

Yea, I draw all power from the ALT. no matter what use.  :scratchchin:

OK... going slowly, as far I have time to reply.

FIRST:

do you have a matching output alt to feed all the new adds? THIS IS THE FIRST STEP TO BE MADE

SECOND:

will you keep the ammeter working ? THERE IS NO NEED TO BYPASS IT MAKING THE STUFF CORRECTLY.

...

soon, new replies

OH... for most regular applications and setups 4 prongs relays are quite enough to make things work. The 5 prongs are used just to switch to one or another route the power depending if triggering or not the relay. 5 pins can be used the same though, but just the 87a terminal ( the one energized with relay in rest position ) would keep unused

Howdy Nacho!

Well, I think so. Standard Alternator...haven't had any issues?
- Not planning to bypass ALT gage, haven't heard it being an issue like in 2nd Gens
- As for relays the aftermarket ones are a bit bigger but seem to be the same Amp rating as the smaller factory relays...just checking
- Copy on 5 pin relay!

Nacho-RT74

The "issue" with the ammeter is the same in all full load ammeter Mopars all years. All are build exactly the same. The most accesories gets, the more risky to it as far the alt is not enough to feed needing to suck out from the batt constantly.

5 pins relay would be used on our cars, for example, for the hideaways.

I just refreshed the stickied thread

Relay nomenclature reads SPST is single pole single throw. Single pole double throw is SPDT. SPST is for a single device and SPDT is for an ether/or like 70 headlight motor up or down. (Off or on and this or that.) The amp rating is gauged by the size of the contacts inside.

Will expand later on this, about ideas and stuff... sorry I have been REALLY busy

Ok project completed. I didn't go real elaborate. I was very disappointed with the shop that previously had done good work, what a rats nest! Miswired, a relay that did nothing, im suprised it ran!
Anyway,  wored replaced, relays moved and wires wrapped....tidy and dependable..now on to the 12 year oil leak!
