Hey all , just trying to find out if this would even be possible. I was thinking of trying a golf cart starter/generator. Apparently I am a lot older/weaker than I thought. I just did the top end and I can no longer kick over my bike. Compression wise , I wonder how it even ran before. Is there a way to get a lot more torque/power from one of these ? This is just the first problem next is fitting a sprocket in place of the pulley then fitting , bracing , wiring , etc. Thanks for reading my ramblings.

What are you wanting to modify? All you said was "bike"?

poppa

Sorry , add an electric start , hopefully , through some type of starter/generator.

You haven't "stated" what you want to modify. What year make and model "bike"? (Some motorcycle's have compression release to aid starting.)

The golf cart starter/generators that I've seen are belt-drive...if the compression is making it hard to kick, a belt-drive might not do the job. If the current battery is used only for ignition and lighting, you might need a bigger one for starting.  :shruggy:
Pardon me but my karma just ran over your dogma.

I'm sorry , never mind. The biggest weak point would be switching the pulley to a gear. I don't see a way with the teeny tiny keyway. It would undoubtably shear it right off.

Thank you all for the replies. I don't give up a lot , I'm old. I sometimes (a lot) get to focused on one thing or one way. thank you for the link to the Indian site. I actually thought of the compression release but blew it off cuz I really know nothing about them. I will be looking into them more. Sounds intriguing.
