How does your car compare to new cars in terms of wind noise?

We have all probably grown accustomed to the near silence when driving our newer cars.
Tight weatherstripping, flush windshield wipers, less chrome trim and near silent engines can really drown out the noise.
I think back of all the A bodies that I owned before I bought my first Charger. The A bodies were the cheapest 6 cylinder or V8 Mopar you could buy back in the 1963-76 era and you can bet that few efforts were taken to make them as quiet as a similar year Imperial.
Advancements in noise reduction really seemed to take hold in the late 70s and it continues today.
Of the 10 A body cars I owned before the Charger, only one of them was a totally reliable, quiet and great handling car. That was this one:

This was a 1976 Dart Sport, the most loaded down A body that I have ever owned. It was a 318 model with A/C, power steering and brakes, a sunroof, vinyl top, cloth interior and door panels, it came with Rallye wheels and an 8 1/4" axle. It was quiet, solid and reliable.
Every other A body I owned was pretty basic and was also pretty much worn out by the time that I got it.
In 2000, I bought my first Charger.

It was a "500" model which for 1970 meant nothing performance, just comfort and appearance items. On the first drive, I was amazed at how tight and quiet the car was. 130,000+ miles and hardly any rust, it was a great find. The handling and steering control were the best of any Mopar that I had ever driven. Hardly any wind or road noise. You could actually hear the AM radio as you motored down the road!
Over the years, the changes included bigger engine, louder exhaust, stiffer suspension, low profile tires and to try to negate some noise....sound deadening matting.
The car is pretty quiet compared to the Darts and Dusters that I have had but there still are sources of noise that are characteristic of cars from this era.
The windshield wipers are right there to catch the wind. The A pillars and rain gutters are too. Recessed grille? Yeah....The door handles, the stainless trim, the gaps around the tires in the wheelwells catch and disrupt airflow too.
I guess a quieter engine would help but for the most part, I'm okay with the road noise.
How about you?

I like to drive with the window down in the Charger
Does not seem to make much difference beween up or down for noise

There is not a new car or truck out there that I have ever rode in that the window can be down and go faster than 10 mph without getting the waw waw waw sound which I totaly hate and have to put the window back up no matter how nice a spring day it was to enjoy

The Wife's 2003 Honda CRV has an advisory in the manual about Wind Buffetting, a condition that fits your description. They are designed and shaped to be aerodynamic with the windows up.
My 2007 Truck is fine with the windows down, pretty much like any older truck. My Chargers and the Power Wagon are like  you stated.....windows up or down, the sound is almost the same.
the Wife's Challenger though....It sounds fine with the windows down but holeeeee crap is it quiet with them up. The glass and sealing of these cars is crazy!
