Chris (426 Hemi Chick) - your comment from September, 2025 in the topic "Correct Daytona Tires" started by Sgt Superbird in regards to a high-speed run with your Daytona in Michigan:

"It felt like she was doing the driving, solid as a rock. Thought I was imagining it until years later in one of your posts (from Taxspeaker - Bob) you mentioned talking to the NASCAR friend of yours. You asked him what it was like driving a Daytona on the super speedways. You quoted him as saying: "They drove themselves." That's when I realized I hadn't been imagining the Daytona driving itself."

When I was at Pam & Tim Wellborn's home in October, 2015 I had the pleasure of speaking with Charlie Glotzbach.  He was sitting with Kenny Trout and they were looking at photographs from the day ....and commenting on each.  I asked Charlie "what was it like to drive a Daytona on the track?"

To quote Charlie: "It was like a Sunday drive; you could one-hand it all the way around the track.   Keep in mind we were running on bias-ply tires and the cars moved around a lot.  Watch the films of the races back then and you will see the driver's hands constantly moving the wheel to keep the cars straight.  A Daytona was not like that.  If the car started to get sideways the uprights for the wing would get hit by airflow and push the car back straight."
