Charger Market questions…

Driving in Indiana I came across someone in Muncie driving a 68 dodge charger. It definitely reminded me of the charger I had looked at years ago and reignited my love for one. I had looked a couple years ago in 2020 for a charger and had found one for 45,000 but ended up having to pay for hospital bills instead. Ended up with another classic car that was basically the "next best thing". The past couple of days I looked up more chargers and found the prices have been INSANE. Did the market go crazy within the past year or 2? It also doesn't work that I started looking in mid summer July 2026 HA but thought I'd ask for recommendations and what I should look into? Saw a clean shell of a charger on eBay for 45k but that just sounds insane. Are there no possibility anymore of finding a charger for 45k in great shape? New to the forum again and a bit naive if it doesn't show. Thanks in advance

There is a 1968 Charger on Facebook for $22,000, but I think that's a scam.

I don't know if it was the Fast and Furious movies that pumped up the prices of these cars or what it is.
There is no way that I would pay what others are paying for these cars. Guys like me got lucky to get our cars before they rocketed to the prices seen today.
In 2000 I bought my first one, a 1970 with a 318 that was reliable enough to drive 650 miles a week for just over a month for work. I paid $1700 and currently have maybe $50,000 in it.

I'm certain that it would bring a LOT more than that today. Not quite double but maybe....if someone really liked it.
Now the other Charger (I call it Jigsaw) is also a '70 but was bought in 2019 for $5000. It was not running and had been in a front end collision that required replacement of everything forward of the doors and cowl.
I had the stuff to fix the car and it came with the original 383. I currently have about $10,000 into this car:

I am absolutely positive that Jigsaw would sell quickly for $20,000. It is a mechanically solid car with no rust that needs body and paint.

Had no clue that Chargers are going for big bucks these days. In my humble opinion they are the most beautiful cars ever.

When we bought the Hemi Daytona and Hemi Cuda in 1972, we paid $2,250.00 each; $4.5K total for both.

We have a 68 Hemi RR and a 69 SB 6-PK with 4405 and 2681 miles respectively. They were only driven a few weeks each during the summer of 68 and summer of 69. We have had them 58 and 57 years respectively.

The engines are out as are the trannies. Have all the parts crated and boxed. We've had some interest in both. Any idea what they may be worth?

If we can't get a decent price for them I'll be buried in them, kind of like the lady from San Antonio Texas:

"That would be Sandra Iienes West, a wealthy Beverly Hills socialite and widow of Texas oil millionaire Ike West.

In May 1977, she was buried in her powder-blue 1964 Ferrari 330 America. Per her highly publicized will, she was positioned comfortably behind the wheel, and the car was lowered into a large concrete vault in San Antonio, Texas. The entire box was then filled with cement to thwart grave robbers."

I bet she's still there.

$22.000 for an incomplete Charger that needs floors, interior, a grille and does not appear to run and drive....
Mine is registered, insured and roadworthy. If that guy gets $22,000, what does that mean for mine?
See how that works? Once "crazy" gets validated enough times, crazy becomes the norm.

Yes, crazy is the new black.
A base 318 69 Charger that was in need of a full resto, but rust free, cost me 16k in 2006 and people said I was mad.

Fast forward to 2022 after I had fitted a big block and rebuilt the car, it fetched 135k
Probably doubled my money in those few years.

Yes, the one below
Gotta love a '69
