I went to start my engine yesterday and it cranked but there wasnt any spark. It has a trigger start, somebody pulled the column start. Its in a 1974 318 auto.

is very tipical loosen terminal at ECU module ( electronic ignition module plug ) and Distribuitor plug to engine harness.

Just in case:

Check for 12 volts on Blue wire at ballast resistor and 9-10Volts on + terminal of coil ( brown wire ) on Run ignition switch position

And 12 Volts on + terminal of coil ( brown wire ) at Start ignition switch moment.

There is several topics about that kind of problems and how to check it, that I have helped. Make a search ;)

So
First I should make sure the ECU wires are connected good. If that doesnt work? Also there are red wires coming out from under the dash on the drivers side, they have bullet-like connectors. Also the turn signals dont work and neither does the radio or any other elctronic device besides the glove box light and dash light. I think since someone took the key out of the car and now it has a trigger start I think the car doesnt go into the ON position. But it was running before with this the guy said.

Nacho-RT74

it looks some spare voltage regulator mounted just in case, but the other one is plugged...

anyway, if you don't have that regulator plugged, car engine must starts on...

the ignition module is a square module with a transistor on it, at a side of passenger side hood hinge. bolted on to firewall. Rubber plug has 5 female bullet terminals inserted. Ignition module it could have 5 or 4 pins.

I know where the module is and the wires look good that are coming out of it. My car doesnt have a key so it doesnt go to ON/RUN, it just cranks.

Oh Ok... on that case you can feed the ballast on blue wires directly from batt and crank the starter on relay.

will take some time since you are feeding before the ballast resistor. For quicker start feed directly the + terminal of coil and crank

Thanks, I guess this isnt a permanent fix. Are there any 2 wires I can put together to make the car ON all the time when the battery is hooked up.

maybe if iddles wierd at first was becasue fast iddle cam at warming was not operating... check the manifold choke rod at passenger side of carb if is mounted or maybe is stucked.

Smoke... maybe valve seals damaged if was blue/gray smoke... if smoke was black/brownish is carburation.

Tranny... I have not idea, Maybe just tranny valve body stuck somehow
