Does anyone know how you remove the front shoulder belt retainer?  ???  It is the clip in the roof that holds the shoulder belt when not in use.  I can see how to remove the rear attachment point but not the front one.  Any help appreciated.  Don't want to break it because I don't know what I'm doing!  Thanx a lot!

I'm pretty sure it's just held in there by the three screws that attach your sunvisor.

Thanks for the replys, but I don't think that is it.  The clip is on the roof headliner above about where your shoulder would be when sitting in the car quite a ways away from the sunvisor screws.  I cannot see any screws in the clip.  Any other suggestions????  Thanx a lot!

If your talking about a "almost" square black  plastic piece, push ONLY the black plastic piece UP from the small metal frame. Once thats done you'll see the two small screws in that metal frame.Hope that helps.

There are only three attaching points on the 68 shoulder belts. There is a philips head screw in the very rear that holds
the end of the shoulder belt, at the end that is elastic, that clips on a push on round button.

there is a large bolt that bolts into the body in front of that, that has a plastic cover over it. kind of above your shoulder.

Then there is a male buckle clip up front that the sunvisor also screws into.

Those are the only points where it hooks up to.

What you are describing almost sound like a 1970 setup.  ???

Hmm, my '69 had the same style as 1968.  In 1970 they went to a different design.

Any pics of this clip?

Which part?  I'm getting confused here now.

I think in 1970 they began using a black clip above the seat to hold the belt instead of the elastic strap and button like '68 and '69. Basically the same design as the E bodies and 71+ B bodies.

Okay thanks.  I dragged my 70 fsm out and took a look at it too while you were finding that link so I see the difference now.  I think 8wheeler is describing the 68-69 setup though because he mentions the elastic portion?

Actually, I was responding to the original post by 19Charger68 not Dan's. Dan's description is right on for the 68-69 setup. Sorry for the confusion.

Alright, now I'm getting it.  At least it made me drag down a couple of fsm's and go through them and it's always good to look through those again. :icon_smile_big:
Thanks.

:iagree: same as the 70 and up e bodys . although i have seen a few  early production  70 chargers built 69  with 68/69 belts fitted ,can not varefiy this to be from the factory though . because they wern't one owner cars and they could of been swapped out years ago . i would not of thought it would make sence to do this though .

Whew!  O.K., I think I've got it now.  Slipping the cover off the clip sounds right so I will try that.  Thank you CCharger!  8Wheeler - I don't think I have ever seen the buckle attachment that is screwed into the sunvisor brackets.  Maybe that is why I seem to have such a difficult time getting the shoulder belt to stay in place.  Do you have any photos of that clip?  Is there any source you know of to purchase that clip? Thanks everyone for the help and comments!

How are you keeping the belt up without the front clip in place? The belt buckle snaps into it and then the loose end goes back to the button snap.

Well, I am currently folding the shoulderbelt back on themselves and sticking them into what I guess is the middle bracket.  I'll try to snap a photo this weekend.  While I was writing this I see the photos of the clips that were posted by 694spdrt.  I will look to see if they are there.  You would think that after owning the car for 9 years I would know whether or not they are there but I don't remember ever seeing them.  If they are there, I am going to have my wife give me a few swift kicks in the A**.  Thanks for all of your help and responses!

Hey, maybe a previous owner traded the shoulder belt setup with one of the 70 Chargers that tan top has seen??? :icon_smile_big:

Sorry.

Yah, that would be about my luck! :icon_smile_sad:

So after all this, I now know why I have such a heck of a time getting my shoulder belts to stay in place - I am missing the retainers that go under the sunvisors :brickwall:  Do any of you happen to have any spares that you would want to sell or do you know where I might find a pair of these things?

Thank you,

Bruce

Hello, I need to replace the elastic on the shoulder belts on a 68 Charger R/T. Could someone please tell me the length it is when not stretched. Also, does anyone have a picture of the shoulder belt and how it mounts when not in use??

Ghoste

The buckle snaps into a metal clip up by the sun visor and then the snaps near the back are clipped together.
