Hey guys,
just thought I'd post a few pics of "Claudia" my 69 R/T after she was dipped.(my apologies to those of you who thought I was talking about Ms. Schiffer) Kind of a P*ss off story, I had done a lot of the tear down with the help of a friend of mine, sent her to be media blasted, then to the body shop. To make a long story short, the guy had been leaving her outside under a tarp despite one of my conditions on taking her to his shop being - The car stays indoors - no esceptions! anyway, after one too many broken promises. I pulled the car and took it to another shop that specializes in restoration and actually wanted to work on it immediately. We discovered some rust spots underneath the crappy primer job the last guys did and I made the decision to have her dipped and redone properly. The pics you see attached are after she came back from the dippers and starting to epoxy the interior.
All in all I think she already looks beautiful, cant wait to see her finished (deadline spring 07)
ps.....yes those are original floors !
I'll keep you posted, after the last fiasco I'm actually excited about this again!!
Anybody else have similar stories, how did things turn out?

I have no issues. As long as the person running the lift knows when to pull it out. I think it truely is the best way to get all of it. However I had also understood that it was a good idea to Have it dipped in primer to get all the areas covered that Acid may have sat in EVEN after a RINSE....? GOOD TO SEE PETE.... keep up the work. IIRC, Pete got this from South west? AZ or NM? Was Bronze in color? I know he had posted some pictures about it.

Tom Yup. Acid dipping is a great way to go, provided the dipper knows what he's doing. If he doesn't you're probably screwed. The thing now is getting to all those nooks and crannies to protect the bare metal so it doesn't rust again. That said, probably 95% of all Chargers have hidden rust that will never be reached. Even the no. 1 show cars.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the props, you are right, I picked up the car in AZ and had it shipped to Canada (Sorry to all my Yankee buddies, but you missed out on a good one). I've been taking this resto up a notch every time I see how good a base I'm starting out with! I guess this now qualifies as a full rotisserie restoration LOL. there is now not one nut or bolt on this car that will not be touched up. Anyway to answer some questions - yes that is original sheet metal except for a couple of patch panels on the rear quarters., everything else is the stuff that came from hamtrak! its a true RT 440 4 spd w/ A33 "track pack, date coded "massaged" 440 6 pk is now complete, (see previous posts for pics), original tranny is now restored but am substituting n a pistol grip.new interior is waiting to go in by diamond trim (for those in the know, these are the guys on "Dream Car Garage" TV show) colour will be a variation of "copper orange". couple more pics of the interior in claudia pics 2 post
I'll keep posting updates now that we are at the "fun" part - putting her back together....

Hi Guys, the dip shop is Greenwich metal (cleaners?) in Brantford, ON, Canada. VERY Good shop, as far as the price goes, I'm not done yet, they are now doing the k member, dash and fenders . I will let you know the final #'s once I'm done - If I have the nerve to add it all up! LOL

There was a story about the King (Willy) who ruined a daytona because it had been acid dipped to many times. Is this the same process and if are you at risk of wasting your car?

Not if the Tech knows what they are doing. the WIILLY Daytona I understand was left in much longer than it should have been. They were trying to make the car light...... Little too far. Tom

Thanks for the concern guys but this is the first time this car has ever been dipped/restored/touched since 1969, these guys are very good at what they do and I trust my resto shop. I inspected the car before and after the dip and I'm very happy with the work (can ya tell?)
she's now being epoxied and final touches before the high build goes on, I'll keep ya posted!!
