70 Charger R/T SE 440 Six Pack Toronto Canada

« on: November 05, 2008, 06:01:12 PM »

This happened this morning about 2-4 minutes before I got there. It was pretty bad. 18 wheeler falls 40+ feet off an overpass and crushes 4 cars. I stopped at an ATM (that is ABM to you US folks) on the way to work to pay a bill. If I hadn't that could have been me.

Sounds like your lucky day Don. Feel bad for the guy that lost his life, probably never knew what was about to happen.

I'm trying to understand how the trailer split. From what I saw on the news, the back 3/4 of trailer ripped away. The front 1/4 stayed connected to the tractor. That's pretty scary.

Wow, Thats bad.
I have never been scared of big trucks on the highway but I have always had a fobia about going under a bridge when a truck was overhead.

Yeah the cab was sitting there with part of the trailer front still attached. I think the load of copper pipe shifted and basically ripped the trailer off the cab and hurtled 40-50 feet down onto the highway below. Plus huge bales of pipe landed on other cars. Went under it this morning and couldn't help but imagine a 40 foot trailer falling from the sky hitting you while your travelling 120 KPH. Like hitting a brick wall while being crushed from above. Unreal. The guy who died lives in my town.

Well the trailer coming apart sounds more doable than it coming out of the fifth wheel like I originally thought.
I just can't imagine what the victims were thinking seeing that half trailer flying through the air like that.  rotz
