Just an FYI for anyone who wants to convert their 2nd gen clock (without tach) to quartz.  First of all, I found a kit for 50 bucks at

I saw them at other vendors for $75.00.  also, I just got done and it is a very doable project for almost anyone.  I got the video and it really makes it simple.

Is it powered by a separate battery or the one underhood?

under hood battery.  from the outside, you cannot tell it's been converted

Cool.  I had looked at one once but you had to find a spot to for a small battery (can't remember if it was AA or AAA, no matter) which was not so bad, but I didn't relish the idea of taking things apart to change it whne the time came.
