Aero Car National Meet, sponsored by Daytona-Superbird Auto Club.  Our 2007 National Meet will be held in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Dates are August 23rd thru 26th.  Owners of Daytonas, Superbirds, Charger 500's and all other enthusiasts are invited.

The event will be held in conjunction with the Governor's Cup 250 ARCA race weekend, and the Milwaukee Masterpiece Concours d'Elegance on Milwaukee's lakefront. In addition, the Milwaukee Mile is hosting a Racers Reunion, and are contacting owners of vintage stock cars to bring them for display, and also drivers.   Here's what we've got planned:

Thursday 8/23 – Tour of Harley-Davidson engine manufacturing plant. Afternoon tour of Miller Brewing, and the Mitchell Park Horticultural Domes.

Friday 8/24 – Tour and Reception at Aloha Automotive. See how they do it at one of the country's premier restoration facilities. More muscle during our afternoon tour at Colin's Classic Auto. Later, a police escorted motorcade through Milwaukee's Lake Drive area. This will be part of the press preview for the Milwaukee Masterpiece Concours event weekend.

Saturday 8/25 – Aero Car Concours at the Masterpiece Speed and Style Showcase - Club Day at Veterans Park on Milwaukee's Lakefront. This is a spectacular venue right on Lake Michigan. Late afternoon display on the track at the Milwaukee Mile after ARCA qualifying. There will be an opportunity for plenty of photos on-track, and the fans will be able to come down and see the cars.

Sunday 8/26 – Display at the Milwaukee Mile, Parade lap prior to the ARCA Governor's Cup 250. Plans are for a pair of Race Aero Cars to actually pace the ARCA field prior to taking the green flag. This will be a televised race on Speed Channel.

Hotel arrangements are pending, but we will have the information by the next newsletter or online at www.superbirdclub.com The track is negotiating a racers rate with a couple of local hotels, and we are waiting for confirmation.

More info?  Call Doug Schellinger at 414-687-2489 or PM me on the Charger board.

Yeah, that was one for the ages, for sure.

PocketThunder

Well are you gonna tell us the rest of us the key story are are we gonna have to go to Milwaukee to hear it?  :popcrn:

After the Friday Indianapolis tornado in 2002, the Fairgrounds were a mess and we were just going to have our show at the hotel.  Well, at the last minute we decided to go to the Fairgrounds as things cleaned up pretty well.   Trouble was, ol' 3Daytona and his missus had the red car all out and ready for show.  So we had to get it back in the trailer and locked down pretty quick.     I of course volunteered to help.

Well, after getting everything ready to go, all we have to do is start the tow rig and be on the way - except there's no keys for the rig - ANYWHERE.

A half hour search commenced, all through the trailer,  the Daytona, the truck the ground,  everyone' pockets, etc.  No keys anywhere.   Well,  for some reason, I looked in my pockets after all this, and lo and behold, there were the keys.  I have no idea how I wound up with them.  But I did.

I am surprised I wasn't shot on sight...

69_500

Delma told me about that last year at the Monster Mopar weekend, and they were having a good laugh about it then. Jim and his wife are great. They have always been some of the nicest people I've ever ran across at various shows. Everytime I talk to Jim on the phone he asks how my 3 year old son is doing.

3--Daytona

Well I would have shot him on site,,  but   I didnt have any gun,,,,,, What a weekend,,,Good times with good people,,,,,, Should of seen Doug's face, when keys turned up in his pocket!!!!!!!!!  3-daytona

Nothing like having a front row seat to this one!  I live in West Allis, WI. and I am only 3 miles from the track. Too bad mine isn't a "Real" Aero car....

I saw your car at Oscars last year.   We'd welcome you to come and join us for the weekends activities.

Doug

Arigmaster

Yeaaa....  The "purists" would probably give me a hard time...

Aero426

Actually, we're pretty easy going.

Believe it or not, you wouldn't be the first Charger to attend one of our events with the rare skull wing option.  I'm serious about this!

69_500

How about wingless Chargers? :)

I'm still planning on coming up for that show Doug. :)

Aero426

Hi Danny, everyone is welcome to attend.

Doug

I was just being a smartie.  I'm trying my best to make arrangements to be there this year.

If you want a lower cost hotel, send me a PM.  I have something lined up very close by.  They have a smaller parking lot and can't handle the whole group when we start figuring in trailers.

Aero426

There will be several real deal Aero race cars attending the Milwaukee event and making some noise.

Bobby Isaac's K & K Insurance Daytona (1970 NASCAR Championship car)
Ramo Stott's #7 Superbird (1970 ARCA Championship car)
Bob Brevak's 1972 USAC Hemi Charger
Benny Parsons #98 Torino Talladega (ARCA Championship car)

Tentative plans are to run Isaac's K & K Daytona on Aloha Automotive's chassis dyno.

Paul, if you are thinking of coming, you should make a hotel reservations now, if you haven't done so.   They are going to lift the block of rooms on 7/22, and the rate will increase.    If you do not come, you can always cancel up to 24 hours before the meet.

Doug

Grrrrrrrrrr. Its always something isn't it. I have had this date penciled in on the calendar for months now. Yesterday we got the schedule for my son's football for this fall. Wouldn't you know that the fall kickoff/jamboree is August 25th. why do they do this kind of stuff to me.

Doug, if I can talk a kid into missing it, or his mom into letting me miss it I'll still try to make it. I don't think that will happen, at this point it looks like the only C500 will be Pauls, and maybe Vickies.

Jerry Narramore's,  Paul's and Phil Borucki's F8 green car are going to be there.

pettybird

i'll be there, too--found out TODAY that another trip i'd planned is being postponed (she's pretty--what can I say?)

I may or may not have my friend steve kay (Q5 tona, B5 bird) along for the ride...  heck it's 4 days away, right?

IF steve doesn't go, anyone have an extra bed/floor space for me?

funny also is that steve's old F6 daytona was bought from steve klein sporting the skull and crossbones treatment on its wing, too...  pirates love daytonas.

how many FORDS are going?  anyone yet??  i haven't seen a talladega in a long time.

Aero426

There will be a dozen Talladegas and Spoiler II's at the show.

ARCA has just given final approval for the #7 Ramo Superbird and #98 Parsons Talladega to lead the first pace lap of the race for TV.    These two cars are the 1969 and 1970 ARCA championship cars.

The street Aero cars will do a parade lap at 11:30 on Sunday.

PocketThunder

So doug, should i just show up at Vetrans Park on Saturday morning?  What time?

Paul, what time do you think you will arrive in Milwaukee?

We are leaving the hotel at 7:45.  It's about 20 minutes to the lakefront.

If you're coming on your own, take I-94 east all the way to the lakefront.   Exit left at the Lakefront Exit which will dump you on Lincoln Memorial Drive.   Take this about one mile.  Turn right at Veterans Park (Lagoon Drive).  Follow Lagoon south to the show.    Need to get you there by 8:30 if possible.

Look forward to meeting you.
Doug

Great we will see you at the hotel in the morning at the hotel.

If for some reason we do not connect,  take I-94 east until you hit water.     Take the Lakefront exit to the left.   Veterans Park is about one mile or so north on the right.   It's next to the water.   My cell is 414-687-2489.

Pretty nice event.   Counting a few cars coming and going, we had 50 cars on Saturday and Sunday.   Here's the breakdown:

20 Superbirds
5 Daytonas
3 Charger 500
8 Talladegas
8 Cyclones
6 B-Bodies

We dodged rain drops through Saturday morning, but were dry for most of the activities.    Paul made it down with the slant six Charger 500 on Saturday.

We ran Rick Stanton's Boss 429 Talladega on the dyno at Aloha on Friday.   With uncorked headers, it ran 640 HP at the rear wheels.   Pretty Impressive.

Track display was very nice.  We got two parade laps in on Sunday.      The Stott Superbird and Parsons Talladega led the first pace lap on Sunday.

They pace lap was at 11:57 AM.  TV came on at noon.    So I doubt that it was.    This had to do with the two hour time window for the live broadcast.    The only other possibility was if they put it in the can for later in the broadcast.   I haven't seen it yet.

we are in it.  scott faulkner says they looked over my signed wing, and he says they have me on the parade lap with the 43's on the door and coyote hanging out the window.

It must be part way through the race then???   I got the first 45 minutes or so on tape and it isn't on there.
