I took this photo in the parking lot at the first Mopar Nationals (Chrysler Car Club Conference back then) in July of 1981.  It was the first Daytona that I had ever seen in real life so for a young Mopar fan from the backwoods of Canada, it was a biggie.

I looked through my photo's and I didn't have a picture of that one from 1981. Its a new on to me. I have about 80 pics of winged cars from the 1st Mopar Nats in 1981.

Ghoste

I don't have 80 but I do have some.  Good Lord Danny, how old were you then?

For those of you wondering I was 3 in 1981. I didn't take the pics, I was meerly the kid riding in the backseat of the Daytona to the shows. My dad took all the pics until 1987. That is when I got my own camera and starting shooting on my own. :) Now I take way too many photo's. Like for instance shot about 400 photo's of the wing cars at the Monster Mopar last fall. That is just one show. I remember my dad going through about 4 or 5 rolls at each major event back in the early 80's. Actually have some video footage of the 1981 Mopar nats as well. The camcorder was a shoulder kit, and you had to carry half of the VHS player with you to insert the tapes into it.

Ghoste

I'd love to see that video.  I'm sitting here going through my early 80's photos now looking for any pics with a little kid hanging around the aero cars.  No luck so far.
I do have a pic of red Daytona from 81 but it's a Hemi car and it doesn't look like a rust bucket.

69_500

That definately isn't it then. It wasn't a HEMI. It was a 4 speed car though.

There different. The Daytona in Ghoste's pic had a white wing and black wing. Both Daytonas in the pics posted by Nascarxx29 have black stripes and wings.

Actually yes I was at the 1982 meet in St. Louis as well. In 1982 we drove the red HEMI 500 with a black vinyl top. I remember that one for sure as  me and my dad were the only two to go, and we slept in the car instead of getting a hotel room. That night we were woke up by police chasing a gentleman throug the parking lot. Eventually they caught him but turning the dogs lose on him.

Ghoste

Haha.  I slept in the car the next year when it was at Indy for the first time.  There ain't a whole lotta room in one of those Cordobachargers.

69_500

The reason I remember sleeping in the car is that in the morning my dad was changing clothes in the car, while I was putting my old clothes in the trunk. He hands me his pants to hold, but I put them in the trunk, and shut the trunk. Thus locking the car keys, in the trunk, while my dad is in the front without any pants on. So my dad opens the door yells at me, then pops the rea seat out, not completely, but up from the locked position. I slide under it enough to reach the pants and get the keys.
