exhaust dilemma

Just put a 71 440 (out of an Imperial) in my 71 Charger SE. The exhaust manifolds on the engine are also from a 71 C-body. Driver's side slightly rubs the steering column, which prevents me from being able to run an exhaust system -- or freely turn my steering wheel. Has anybody tried any of the "shorty" or "block hugger" headers on a 440 in a column shift 71 Charger SE? Anyway to get around my dilemma without a big header hassle or a lightweight starter?
